Need help in making a tyre purchase
Hi all. Im currently driving a 997.1 GT3 with Michelin PS2s for about 13,000kms (no track) and it's starting to show signs of grip fading, especially on the front tyres.
I drive relatively smoothly but instances of the car understeering is getting more apparent. In the wet, you can feel the car skittering, especially in the front. I've taken into account the inherent lightness of a 911 but the performance has certainly dropped over the Ks.
The PS3s have been released but it seems that it's a mix of succeeding PS2s and a lower end Michelin tyre. This is primarily my first choice but I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about it.
Im also considering the Potenzas RE-11 but the sheer weight of the tyre is a concern for a weight weenie like me. Also considering the new P-Zeros.
Please help me out thanks!
PS: The car will be used primarily for spirited street driving

Thanks. Importing tires would be my last option (but for the sake of getting the tires I will) as the freight cost to Singapore is expensive. I did order 2 sets of RE-01R from tirerack back in Aug '08 and had them shipped to Australia.
Just trying my luck but.. do you guys have the Michelin Pilot Super Sport? Or know when would it be released publicly? Apparently this is an OEM tire on the 599 GTO.

a gt3 is designed to have r compound tires. i went from the mpsc to toyo r888 and very happy with the change. toyo has more grip wet and dry, wears the same, and costs 30% less than michelins. only downside is theyre noisier on hiway. a no brainer to me

also went with the Toyo R888s
as the previous poster said, they do alright dynamically, the price is attractive, but the noise is horrendous. I hate these things, and can't wait to get rid of them. If you do any kind of road trips, the constant tire drone at 80 mph really gets annoying (at least to me). I have the sharkwerks bypass and love it's sound, like to listen to music, DO NOT like to listen to constant tire drone. There is no way I would buy these things again.

an engr,
Can u pls clarify which tires you can't wait to get rid of? I've got the original mpsc's on my 997 GT2 and they drone and howl a lot, and will look for a quieter tire. Thx

The Pirelli Corsa's are great (wet & dry) specifically over the MPSC which SUCK in the rain (hell just wet). My issue has been pricing. Just way too much.
I agree with above comments about the R888's. I love them as DD and track use on my GT3RS. Would recommend them hands down.
To above comment, the Nitto INVO's were a grave disappointment. Their sidewalls are terrible. Soft, no hardcore structural integrity, bouncy and mushy on hard cornering. Maybe good in just a straightline but that's not the life of a GT3/RS.
btw what are the prices of the Pirelli Trofeos? May have to raid the kids college fund.

Damon I would like to see what 3 or 4 tires you recommend other than PS2s for GT3s that are used mostly for aggressive DD's.
Also Damon any info on these new michelins PS3s or SuperSports that you can share publically?
