997 GT3 shifter vs short shifter
I have an 996 C4S with the 996 OEM short shifter, and am considering upgrading to the 997 GT3 shifter or the 997 short shifter.
I would appreciate any views as to the smoothness and shortness of the GT3 shifter vs the 997 short shifter (is the GT3 version any shorter than the standard 997 shifter, or does it just have aluminum rather than plastic bushings?).
Also, has anyone used the billet shift linkage in replacement of the OEM plastic linkage? Would appreciate any views on that upgrade as well, including notchiness, reducing any sloppiness in the shifter, etc.
Thanks!

I hate the regular shifter in my GT3 - it is vague and the throw is too long IMHO. It seems almost identical to my stock 996 shifter that I also hated especially shifting from 2 to 3rd. I replaced my 996 shifter with a B&M and I enjoyed it, although it was slightly notchy until it got broken in and it was worse in the winter until the tranny warmed up.
For the diehard track guys here they prefer the Cup shifter with cup car cables but to me this is expensive and my car is primarily a street car.
I am contemplating purchasing the 997 Short Shifter part number
997 424 983 00 as it can be had for around $430.00.
I found that the biggest problem with every short shifter is the install. The cables must not be moved if you want to avoid any issues or they must be adjusted a few times to get the shift action 100% right
