weight reduction on a street car

Hi,

could you please post your path and parts you used for weight reduction on your cars?

I do not want to strip interior at all, will only remove rear seats backs. car will get a roll bar. ideally i want to get it at least to 3K lbs target with stock interior, right now it is at 3200lbs without driver.

Speaking about CF bumpers, doors, hood, rear deck - how much weight does it all save exactly going to all CF exterior? What is an approximate price tag on those?

I swapped my seats for 996GT3 seats and saved almost 40lbs per seat over the ***.

Swap out the factory exhaust for a lighter weight system, remove the sunroof, replace the headliner with a RS head liner, swap batteries to a lightweight, remove your washer fluid system, remove your motorized tail and put a fixed one in it's place.

Reducing unsprung weight (Wheels, Rotors) will net you pretty good weight loss effects.

I am sure that there are others, but I would imagine that these are the cheapest....if one were to consider these cheap.

I removed all the pieces for the rear including the rear seat backs, the lower cushions, rear mats, and rear seat belts. That will only account for the roll bar (maybe even less than what the roll bar weighs).

I don't know if doing CF doors is a good idea for a street car. What's going to happen to the side airbags?

The easy way for track dedicated cars is to get rid of the mufflers, front and rear bumper brackets. Again, I would not suggest it for a street car.

Without stripping the interior, pretty much all you can do is take out the rear seats and all the bs along with it. And swap the standard seats for some buckets. That is what I've done.

Although not a perfect match for your specific model, you will still find a lot of relevant information over here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...urbo-list.html

Good luck!

At the risk of sounding self-serving, you will get the greatest benefit by reducing UNSPRUNG weight first.
This not only reduces overall mass, it enhances acceleration, braking, handling, ride comfort, reduces suspension wear and increases driver confidence.

You should check out Gomez's build on their forum. I don't want to name the forum and get into trouble with the administrators You can see what he's done and see how much each component weighs.

What I've done to reduce weight are the following:

-Remove rear seats, seat belts, and carpet
-GT2 folding buckets
-Replace original decklid with the Aerokit Decklid

Other things you can do while keeping the car legal:

-Aluminum doors from GT3
-RS rear plexiglass window
-Remove speakers/subwoofer
-CF hood
-Lightweight battery (braille, reasonable price)
-Lightweight wheels and brakes
-Remove sunroof (you will never see the money back )

Yep, I saw Gomez`s build. It definitely adds some info for consideration.

I was thinking to do something simple enough for beginning, may be CF aero kit, seats, light battery. as of reducing unsprung weight - will see.
I am trying to get an initial understanding of how much all that will/may cost.

Turbo thread was interesting, kudos for that.

Here is a list I've been putting together for a while. Some of the motorport items are guesses.

Delete Option Car 3035 lbs

Steel Brakes 44 lbs
Standard Seats 50 lbs
A/C 33 lbs
Audio 20 lbs
Sunroof 40 lbs
Standard Battery 23 lbs

Total Estimated Weight 3,245 lbs

Single Reviere Carbon Seat (-90 lbs)
Roll Bar, Harnesses, Extinguisher (+60 lbs?)
Wevo Engine Mounts (-4 lbs)
Brembo Race Rotors (-12 lbs)
Brembo or PFC Caliper upgrade (-20 lbs)
Volt Phreaks Battery (-40 lbs)
Exhaust: Akraprovic, SW Race, FVD Race (-57 lbs)
Euro Rear Bumper + rebar skinning (-11 lbs)

Weight 3070 lbs

Naked Trunk (-19 lbs)
Euro RS rear glass (-6 lbs?)
Euro GT2 RS quarter glass (-11 lbs?)
Empty Washer Fluid (-9 lbs)
RSR Engine Carrier (-5 lbs?)
Carbon Hood (-10 lbs?)
RSR Intake Manifold (-10 lbs?)
Carbon Trunk (-10 lbs?)
Audio Delete (-22 lbs)
Airbags Delete (-16 lbs)
Front rebar skinning (-4 lbs)

Competition Weight (one seat) 2,947 lbs

That still leaves you carpet, sound deadening inside the cabin, and most importantly A/C

Carpet/Sound Deadening (-44 lbs)

I no longer have the S2000, recently sold it, in the market for an upgrade, either Lotus Exige or .1 GT3, still unsure/looking.

By motorsport trunk i was referring to CF trunk, Getty, PMNA (Cup/RSR) or what have you.
Engine carrier is is the junction piece between the motor and motor mounts. The motorsport item appears to be lighter than the factory street car unit from the photos I've seen.

Both are great track cars for sure! Good luck with the search/purchase

That is what I said for hood and decklid.

I haven't heard of engine carrier until now... I'll look into it Sounds interesting

For dual purpose street/track use, yes? Do you consistently run lower lap times with an empty tank vs full tank of gas? If not, don't bother. Just install the roll bar and be happy! After the weight of the roll bar, given the mods you're probably willing to do it'll be pretty tough to get under 3k pounds within any reasonable cost.
