New GT3 Owner
Hello, this is my first post here. Just picked up my first Porsche last night -- a lightly optioned black 2010 GT3 with 4800 miles. Only options are: ***, sound package, dynamic cornering lights, bluetooth interface, self dim mirrors/rain sensors, universal audio interface, sport chrono w/o pcm, and fire extinguisher.
Was originally looking for a low mileage 09 997tt but haven't had any luck locating one.
Anyway, I just have a quick question about the upshift indicator (not that I need it). Is this a defeatable feature? At what RPM does it light up? I've been trying to get it to light up, brought revs up to about 7.5k, to no avail. Not sure if this feature was suppressed by the original owner, not a feature in my car, or simple defective.
Appreciate any input from the forum gurus. Many thanks.

I did not think Porsche's had an upshift light like you see in some manual cars. I certainly dont have one in my 997S.
Congrats on the car and this thread is worthless until you post pics!

I actually learned about it from the manual -- the indicator is an upward facing arrow located just right of the GT3 logo on the tach. I can actually see the cutout on the dash -- just can't get it to light up.

Thanks! I'll snap some photos and post them sometime this weekend. The car is dirty right now.

It comes on at the very last split second. Would be nice if it lit up a little earlier....not that youre staring at your dash anyways, but it would be nice

Thanks for clarifying. So when does it kick in -- at 8k?

It happens so quickly, I dont even know. But I would assume 500 rpm below redline which, under hard acceleration, gives less than a second to shift.

Good grief...
...tha was a VW thing years ago... I guess they got their hands in it now.
Personally, I would not want the car telling me when to shift... distracting.
Interesting to know though.
Congrats on the car. Beautiful.

I see mine often in my peripheral vision. I'm always headed to redline fast as I can get there. Ignore whether it comes on or not. Get used to the car and shift at feeling. Your foot and ears will always know.

Run it up to redline and you'll see it
It's actually kind of a nifty gadget. I use it at the track. Its nice when you're around a pack of cars and its hard to hear my own. Comes on probably a second before hitting redline.
