Why did I drive a GT3???
#46
I owned an 08 TT with mods, (GIAC, Bilsteins, Sways and exhaust) and then I drove a 2010 GT3RS and was blown away with all the sensations and response. I am a horsepower junky and did miss the turbo surge but I was ready to make the buy and then an 08 GT2 became available and now that is in my garage. It is a DD and to me, the car is not really rough driving but just not 'anesthetized' like the TT was.
The steering and happy rear end make it fun and a challenge to drive. The handling is amazing and the response is always impressive.
If I had never had the TT, I would have definitely been more than happy with the GT3RS. It is truly a great car, one of the best I have ever driven.

I am afraid you're right! That car has totally gotten under my skin...I have already started searching dealer pre-owned inventory to see if I might be able to work out a trade/swap on a slightly older GT3. Oh, and my wife officially thinks I'm crazy at this point.
These cars just get into your soul...

Once I test drove the GT3, I was completely sold. It seemed that every other track car I have had I would want to modify it to drive the way the GT3 was already designed to do. Coming to that realization made it easy for me to make the decision between it and the Z06, besides the fact that the Z06 would lose book value at over 2x the rate of the GT3.

I am right there with you! I have just purchased a slightly older 996 GT3 and take delivery in 3 days. In the past, I have tracked a heavily modified 3rd Gen. RX-7 and an essentially stock C6 Z06.

Did you buy the red one up @ RAC? If so congrats looks awesome! Keep us posted on your new toy.

Back in 2005 after getting my brand new 996 turbo S I made the mistake of driving a friend's 996 GT3 RS! Getting back in the turbo, I knew that it will get traded in on a GT3, it was just a matter of time.
Placed an order for the, then brand new 997 GT3 and as soon as the RS was announced, I transferred my order to that. Three years and a few months on, I still get a kick out of driving the RS!

All I can say is that the experience driving the GT3 reminded me of my 3rd Gen RX-7 in how much you are part of the driving experience and feel so totally connected to the car. When I got back in the Z06 and drove away, I was completely shocked at how DIS-connected I felt in a car I was completely happy with just 48 hours earlier!
The Z06's power is intoxicating but the driving experience is isolating, not involved. I am very happy I have made the change ... even if there are no cupholders! LOL.

Thanks man. Appreciate the props. Lucky duck. My wife won't get near my RS. Took her for a drive once and she hated it. Do you just cruise up PCH? Epic in a convertible.

Damn reading this thread may have sealed the deal for me. Looking to get into either a 2010 GT3, 2009 turbo, or a 2008-09 R8 around summer or fall of this year. Max budget is around $90-100k. Any idea as to what discounts dealers are offering on a brand new GT3? I am guessing it would have to be special order or are there actually some out there sitting on the lot?

Anti-flame disclaimer: Turbos and R8s are outstanding cars, but do not have the harder suspension of a GT3. To each their own.

You can't order a GT3 or RS right now. You will buy one on the lot or a pre owned car. You are right at the end of the car's order. There will only be a slight chance you can even order one today.

I'd be surprised if they do any incentives on a new GT3. If you want to save a few bucks I'm sure you could find a mint used one. Many people buy them without fully understanding what they are getting, and sell them with low miles to get a softer car - like the others you mentioned. It's impossible to decide by reading this, or any thread. Go drive them all, and you'll know.

Well that makes it easier then. I would rather buy a used one anyhow given they depreciate around 20-30% over the first two years.
