I think even the GT3's are dropping around 15-20% the first year. Seems a lot had a msrp of $125-135k and can be had used for around $105-110k.

I would agree. I'm a little biased to the GT3. They won't fall much if any now, as you can't get em for a few years. The new 991 comes out for delivery in Januaryish of 2012, and we have a year of seeing Cabs, Targa's, 4S's, etc before the GT3 shows it's face. I would expect to see the GT3 market increase just a little.

It's possible that the market may increase a little, but I hardly doubt that will prevent it from dropping in price. My guess is that by fall of this year the price of a GT3 will drop another 10-15% compared to current used prices. So one that is available now for $109k will likely be around $95-99k come Sept-Oct 2011, which puts it under the $100k I am looking for (at least this is what I'm hoping). Guess we will wait and see. In any case, I think either of the three cars I am looking at will definitely be a big step up from the M3 (which is a great car imho).

I strongly recommend CPO.
My 2007 is a CPO and it had only 7662 miles on it.
It was just like new, but not at a new price, and with a fabulous
warranty.

Thanks for the info. I would buy either CPO or one from a private seller. I prefer private seller only because here in AZ you do NOT pay sales tax on used vehicles purchased from a private party.

you can still negotiate CPO status from a dealer if you buy a car from private seller, consult with your local dealers, some of them do such tricks in 2-step transactions.

Any of you GT3 guys drive both the RS and the GT3? Seems like for DD/mostly street, non-RS may be better. thoughts?

The GT3 has regular door handles and usually the sports seats which I think are more livable on a daily basis. Also you don't have the rattle of the LWFW.

I drove both very aggressively and felt that there was a big difference in the way the RS handled and performed. It felt like the perfect car. The regular GT3 was a little bland by comparison. The appearance of the wide body RS is also a big selling point to me.
I was amazed at how comfortable the RS was. The suspension actually felt no different than my 08 TT and I specifically looked for rough roads to compare it to the TT. I was thinking of trading the turbo in on the RS but felt that I would miss the straight line performance of the turbo but really felt that the RS was the much better driver's car. My turbo was a daily driver and I did not feel that the RS would be any more difficult as a daily driver. The regular GT3 would also be a very comfortable DD.
I ended up finding a used 08 GT2 and bought it but I still feel that the GT3 RS was one of the best cars I have ever driven.

I had the choice of the two. As a daily driver it would not do me or the RS any good on the daily drive from New Jersey into Philadelphia. So I found a well equipted GT3.
it would be an injustice to put that RS through that.
