hoosier tire wear

Please help members:

How will I know when my first set of Hoosier R6's are done? This is my first set, have only one track day on them, and hope to get 3-4 more single track days. Is this too optimistic? Thanks...on 07 GT3 19 inch O.Z. rims.

3-4 days is realistic. Hope you bought them heat cycled. They wear and last better. You will know when the insides of either the front or back begin to show light cords. Plus, you will feel it. If you got your car aligned and camber set up properly, the tires will last a little longer. Post pics of your car too.

Please share your impressions with us. Also, what tires did you run before? What is your experience level and what type of track did you run on (hard on brakes, bumpy, abrasive, etc.)? Inquiring minds want to know!

Had the MPSC's before. I have done 9 total days of DE events starting last January 2010. 4 days in 09 Corvette Z06, 2 days with NASA at Virginia International Raceway, 2 days at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas, 2 days at Texas World Speedway as first time out with GT3 with NASA. That was quite a shock going from a neutral-handling car to a rear-end bias car. Have done 2 more days at MSR and one at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Texas. I will correct myself...I have 2 track days on the Hoosiers now. I have been running in the advanced group since the 3rd track day with my GT3. It has been a steep learning curve but very fun. The hoosiers have been an epiphany of sorts...I see why people love to run these although pricy and short lived. I knew they wouldn't last long but hope to get 4-6 DE events out of them. Not heat cycled but I did not run them hard at first. Thanks for the info on tread life.

None of the tracks bumpy but Eagles Canyon is hard on the brakes.

Personally, I've never found heat cycling makes much difference. YMMV.

As for longevity, no way are you going to get 4-6 EVENTS. That's ~48 heat cycles! You will be lucky to get 2 events [16 HC] out of the rears. Sometimes, the fronts will last 20-ish, but not very often. Consistently inspect your tires when when at the track, and if your car setup is not yielding even wear across the tire, you have to flip them after 4-5 HCs to keep them alive longer.

It is typical to wear the inner edge first on cars with "proper" negative camber. But, if you are cording the outer edge, you likely don't have enough. [but be aware that toe-in may be eating the tire as well, so make sure your setup is spot on]

Depending on your driving style, you might get 20 HCs out of a set if you nurse them. That's right at 2.5 events. But I wouldn't count on 20, just feel lucky if you made it there.

Cool

Himself, I believe you are right. I have 11-12 sessions now on the tires and I can tell they are getting thin. Thanks for the info. Fun is expensive. Looks like it's tire ordering time again. Regards.
