Report: Next Porsche 911 GT3 To Get PDK-S Dual Clutch, Drop 200 Pounds

Anything you hear is speculation. This is not out and the RS department won't discuss. They have the greatest jobs in the world, and noone is willing to lose that job. I personally asked that question to Andreus Preuninger this last weekend, and there is noone higher up than him. He personally doesn't like the PDK and will not install it in his cars. It is too heavy, and he will take a screw out of a car if it saves weight.
Porsche reads these threads and they are amused at all the market speculation.

He reads these forums regularly. And they all laugh.

The extra weight of a PDK is mitigated with other advantages - continuous power, steering/braking control, etc. I have been a manual tranny driver all my life, would never have a Tip in a 911 and now with PDK I would not go back.

...We have plenty of time to argue about if the GT3 should have PDK, if the A91 can ever replace the Mertzger, or even if Porsche will even keep a flat 6 at all vs going V8. An all aluminum V8 could be lighter than the Mertzger and still made to rev high and would carry much more torque and have significantly more potential for NA hp.
But can it last.

Steering control? How exactly does steering control come from PDK? Same from braking control, you'll get more engine braking and can use the gearbox to rotate the car more with manual gears than an electronically controlled gearbox any day.

"Same as paint?" No offense, but Porsche has dropped some superb colors, IMHO in recent years. Not good. The recent drop of Arctic Silver (replacing it with Platinum Silver) is but one example...
no thread derailing intended here.

With a PDK you, as a driver, can concentrate on just braking (instead of H&T) and mentally focus on steering far better than when you are busy H&Toeing.

Well, if AP is reading this now, then can he please get in touch w/ the appropriate person at PAG and encourage them to release a new map update for CD-based PCM2.0. The current 2008 maps are starting to get old...
Thanks!
Michael.

I'll possibly give you the braking, even if the computers won't do it half as fast as a well trained driver because they are too busy protecting the gearbox. What that means to the average DE driver is that you will be stuck threshold braking every turn for longer and losing lots of speed in the corners because you are overbraking. But all the heel toe'ing should be done before you start turning in, so it should not have an impact on steering. At least for proper driving.

...And the "continous" power of PDK is more than offset by the complete boredom of tugging on dinky little paddles on the steering column....
