GT2 Exhaust Tips

My 08 GT2 has discolored exhaust tips. Only 1,000 miles on the car but the dealer says that this is normal and not a warranty item. Anyone else have this problem?

They look tarnished with sections that are slightly yellow almost like a liquid dripped on them. The dealer, Manhattan Motorcars, service dept. said that they see this on all GT2s and that it is the nature of the titanium but they look like crap. If this is the best they can be than I might look into black aftermarket tips.

^Negative. Only a blue tint should occur at the tips from heat.

The exhaust tips are titanium? I thought only the muffler section was.

The car was ordered by Ralph Lauren and he couldn't fit in the racing seats so he cancelled the purchase. The car was never titled to him. The dealer kept it in inventory and roped off on the showroom floor.
I bought it in Oct. with 80 miles on it. I only put 1,000 more on it through the Jersey snow deluged winter but plan to use it as a DD during the rest of the year.

Take the whole exhaust off and buy my GMG. That system is the bomb. Sitting in my attic with your name on it.

If you're in Montville (my hometown by the way! ), why not go to Paul Miller, or even Jack Daniels?

Titanium tubing will turn a lot of different colors, from bronze-ish brownish-yellowish, to bright aquamarine blue, to cobalt blue to purple. Ish. Depends on degree of heat exposure, time of exposure, and number of cycles. Also quality and specific alloy of titanium. Ish.

Do this

I believe Cole's exhaust is titanium. GMG has had issues trying to get this material lately when I called back in October for my 997

I went to Manhattan Motorcars because that is where I bought it. A very good friend is a salesman there and let me know when the GT2 was available. I normally have my Porsches serviced by Marty at Paul Miller. He's been working on my cars for more than 20 years. Great mechanic and a nice guy.

PS The Service Writer told me that replacement tips for the GT2 are $1,400 each. I think that they would have to be titanium if they are that expensive

Just looked at the tips of my '08 GT2 with 14,400 miles on it. They are not discolored and don't look like they are made of Ti. The center muffler, on the other hand, is very much discolored and is made of Ti. I think it's the only part of the exhaust system made of Ti. I can clean up the tips nicely with chrome polish.

Unfortunately, I think your service writer is robbing you blind.
