996 alignment issues, steering rack?

So I had a right front shock go out on my 996 gt3, so I replaced both with a set of take offs from a 996 gt3(low mileage) so they are in good shape, after the work was done I had a alignment done and when my car came home it wanted to pull to the left a bit and the wheel wouldn't center, so I took it back and threw it on the rack again and the car was in alignment to the spec of stock settings so we centered the wheel and sure enough still wanders to the left again and the wheel want to center to the left a bit. They said something may be going on with the steering rack because we noticed that the cars steering wheel wont return to the center as well when going through a left turn but when turning to the right the steering wheel returns right back to center with no issues. Has anybody had this issue before?

Haven't had a bad shock or steering rack issue but did have a tire problem that caused the car to pull to the left. Luckily for me it was cured by switching the front tires to the opposite sides of the car. You might want to try it and see if it changes the pull.

Already switched the tires around and that didn't seem to help, the struts were good to go.....already thought of that, my concern is why the steering is so slow to return to center on the one side.....turns in quick but wont come back and stiff turn in the other way.

Bad strut bushing could make it turn back slow..

if your problem started after strut change..you need to start there..
there are alignment shops that do have the tools to bend the struts.

How about the upper strut mount? Could that be jamming up, it is a bearing... If car was fine before new struts, I would look there... Did you get a printout from the alignment shop? Are they familiar with Porsche?

Find a new shop. Not rack. Could be number of things but they wont be able to help find it. Post after alignment specs. Most likely your problem is there.

The alignment was done at a local independent shop, they said they had a problem getting it into alignment and it drove bad so i took it to the dealership and they realigned it and gave me the printout, just took it back to the dealership again to see if its still in alignment and it was. They suggested that there may be a problem with the steering rack.

What viper bob said. I had a shock and alignment issue. I went to two local specialty shops and Porsche dealer. None fixed it until went to a Porsche race shop (150 miles away) who works on lots of gt3's and they fixed the problem. Would have went to vortex but 200 miles away
