Everyone needs to know that every single piece of garbage that has been written or said about this car is totally inaccurate. The clutch issue simply does not exist. It feels like the clutch on every 600HP car I have ever driven. At 600 HP the clutch is going to be heavy. But I drove it around Vegas traffic all day today without a single stall. You can use the Porsche method or a method one would use on any extreme high HP car. If you have less experience it would take no more than an hour to be completely comfortable with the clutch.

As a matter of fact if I had not read about any of the horror stories associated with the CGT clutch I would not have given it a second thought. It is what I would have expected. The car is a pleasure in traffic no problems what so ever. Porsche must be completely baffled at all the bad press this car got.

Les,

I chuckle every time I hear people talk about the CGT clutch. Obviously they are not use to a multi disc clutch coupled with a 3.18 ratio first gear.

Les Quam is infamous around these parts
So far the only time I stalled it was when I was trying to show off for some friends. Which is not to say that I wouldn't have stalled any other manual transmission car either in the same circumstances.

I was trying to give a friend a Ben ride and what they got was a ride with Forrest Gump in his new CGT.

the difficulty for most is not so much the clutch as it is how rapidly the car revs. most people are not used to such instantaneous and hyper throttle senitivity and fast revving. it's is likely the fastest revving production car motor currently out there. once you've adjusted your brain to the throttle response, it's no biggie.

Congrats Les.

I agree with all of your comments and Ben's as well.

To think that Porsche would produce a car so scrutinized witha defective clutch is preposterous period. They have too much automotive history and experience under their belts.

My interpretation of the "ride height" issue is that is insures that I pay attention to this automotive fantasy. It keeps me nicely focused on the task at hand and not crusing around daydreaming. I love the constant interaction the CGT demands of me. It's truly a pleasure.

I also hear from some of the heavy hitters at Jim Ellis in Atlanta that '05 is the last production year for US CGT. They haven't steered me wrong in the past (brought 2001 996 C4, 2004 996 TT, 2004 Cayenne Turbo from them). Who knows.

Lastly, to partake in the CGT phenomenon is truly one of the best experiences I've had in life, let alone being a car to drive. And I spent 4 years in the Special Forces on an A-team (ODA 333, 10th SF Group). The technological tour de force, conversations with enthusiast and layman alike, the abundance of well written books and reviews, and the pure thrill of ownership is beyond words.

Congrats again on your purchase, enjoy the ride, literally & figuratively
