Wink GT3 vs: TT

I have a 2001 TT with 19,xxx miles and Tip. Speed Yellow with GT3 wheels. I love the car.
Today I went by my Porsche-Audi-MB dealer and he had a 2004 GT3 on the showroom floor. First one I had actually sat in. I will drive the car tomorrow, as I was in a bit of a hurry today.

Has anyone had any experience with the two cars? Certainly my TT has more luxury built in and is about 400 lbs heavier. I read the specs on both cars, but I'm really concerned about the actual handling on the GT3.

Two salespeople commented they would take my TT anyday over the GT3, mainly because of the Awd vs the GT3.

Anyone have hands-on experience between the two cars.

At my age this will probably be my last Porsche.

TIA

doc. K,
just go drive it & trust ur first instinct. i know more than handful of people switiching from TT to GT3 and love it including myself. i didn't buy the 3 for tracking purpose & found the car is very fun on street. however, sometime i do miss the Turbo torque that's the 3 doesn't have. but as soon as u rev pass 4k (still got another 4k to go!) u'll be seeing the true beauty of the 3. u'll be feeling much less weight also as soon as u take it out the lot. both cars are amazing just to show u how Porsche can make them so different under the skin. the TT is so comfortable to drive while the 3 feels totally like a street race car. therefore no one is better than another just depends on what u're looking for.

P.S. what a day! my old TT and GT3 reunion.

Arling,
I have always respected your opinion and I thank you for your reply. The GT3 I'm driving tomorrow is the same color as shown in your picture. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I just may sleep in my TT tonight to get an extra early start. Opps, my bad-they don't open til 10:00

Doc I came out of a 993 TT to a 04 GT3.
they are different in so many ways, and so close. The TT is a brutal weapon and the GT3 is a rapier. The TT has AWD and feels heavier in the front. the GT3 is so nimble. A great analogy (that maybe only a Motocrosser would understand) is a Yamaha YZF 450 vs a Honda CRF 250. One is a brutal heavy beast the other is a super quick nimble sprinter. They are both quick and fast but in different ways. THe TT will make you a fast driver quick, the GT3 will improve your skill as a driver.
The reason the Salesman would take a TT is because anyone can get in one and be fast now. You better be paying attention in a GT3 because it does everything you tell it to NOW!

Like Arling says there are alot of us who have made the jump. I LOVE 8000 RPM!!!!

Both suit different needs, both are great to drive, overall fun and feel, feedback will be found more in the GT3.

Chickened out. I read the specs on the GT3 and the more I thought about it I came to believe the GT3 was not the car I wanted.
I can't afford a GT2 at this time but the ECU upgrade on my TT is starting to look more attractive.
My car has not been modded at all-and it goes out of warranty on the 16th of this month.
Thanks Arling for asking.

Doc you need to be sure. there are several GT3's out there that people have bought and not been happy with (thats OK, it allows people like me, who are SURE the GT3 is the right car, to buy them at discounts!!) But you need to drive one that is set up. I drove one at a dealer then one that had 10K on it. And that one was a scream. But it is a purpose built car and you need to be sure of your purpose. Its stiff and noisey and just a blast. A true drivers car. Its not anywhere near as plush as a turbo.

Old Guy (me too)
I'm going to talk with the sales manager (kind of a personal friend) and see if they can come up with a more attractive price.
Car is new with 8 miles and stickered for 114,xxx. They are asking 104,xxx. I kinda like the car-I would really like it if it were a brighter color. My TT is speed yellow.
I'm really taking heat from the wife, she really likes the tip.

Id go for the GT2 I think it has the best of both worlds handling close to a GT3 and the performance of a TT.

The GT3 in my opinion is close to a TT and if you look at the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times this bears it out. My GT3 is real close to my 993TT. the GT2 is just insane- on another level.
