Gt3...

OP....I bought a 2010 meteor grey gt3 and 4 months later traded it for a 2011 gt 3 rs 3.8. I DD the 2010 gt3 and now the 2011 RS. Hands down, the RS is the better car, bar none! Handling, suspension, turn-in, power and road feel so much more pure, precise and forgiving than the gt3.
You can find a new RS in the $138K to $145K price range.

Re: CPO, when I bought my CPO car from a private party, I had it PPI'd at a Porsche dealer in the seller's home state and serviced at another dealer in my state. Both times they just looked at the VIN and said yep, you've got the full warranty. So it looks like there's some national database in effect.
Ymmv, but I do and it doesn't bother me at all. But it's by no means quiet - I have pretty much given up on having any kind of useful phone convo in the car

I have to get familiar with all the abbreviations used here... What is DD?
Thanks evil panda and gt3kidd for the quotes. I found a silver new 2011 GT3 that has every conceivable option with a price of $144k, but the online price is $124k. I called back to confirm if I was dealing with the same car?... They said they're offering a $20k discount - I didn't even have to suggest it myself. Too bad it's silver and not black. Now I am really getting itchy!....

There is a great 2011 at Park Place ltd. In Bellevue, WA. A PPI like you are looking for is only $350-$360 max with DME. A normal PPI is only $120. They higher priced one's are a full Porsche Certified Inspection.
SKXF430, ChrisEVO, BartN, ScooterP, Rey, evil
panda - thank you all for all the great points!!!! I will also check out RennTech too, and inquire about placing a WTB ad.
ChrisEVO, thank you for the detailed response and sage advice! You may have saved me thousands of $$. I had no idea what a DME was. I'll spend the extra $500 for a PPI and definitely request a DME scan on the car, regardless if it's CPO or not. I looked up what this all means. It's really the best "polygraph" test to determine the verity of the sale. That DME, is an unbelieveable litmus test for engine over-revs. If we ever meet at any Porsche clubs in the future, drinks are on me for the honest advice you have given! It's taken a lot of the uncertainty and fear that I had about buying a "track car."
It's reassuring to hear that these cars can take a little abuse. But, from what I surmise about the DME, if there are any ignitions recorded in Ranges 3-6, and maybe even Range 2, I am walking away from the sale. I figured out how ignitions relate to the time spent in the over-rev range. If I find a CPO car with over-revs in Ranges 1-2, I need to make that a part of the sales agreement, AND make sure that neither Porsche nor my local dealer will refuse the warranty. This can get very tricky if there's no past DME scan. If I find the right one, I might have the dealer send me the DME before committing to travel across country to see the car. If it checks out, then I'll have to arrange for a 3rd party PPI from a neighboring dealer.
Rey, I've already spoken to Mike. They made a mistake on the web listing as both GT3s are 3.8 RS... He proposed to repaint parts of the car, but it was going to add to $9K bringing the cost to ~$170K. For me, the RS is a bit ostentatious for just a weekend driver.
Thanks SKXF430 for the autotrader recommendation. I found 3 new 2011 cars that are of interest, even though they're priced in the Turbo range with useless options. One was nice, but has black rims... I'll see if they'll swap with the silver rims?...
Well, evil panda, I really like the GT3 in Black, silver second, and red third.
You guys are the best!

Thanks Mattyrae for the info! It's good to know that PPI + DME will run $350 - a small amount for a huge piece of mind for sure. I looked at the car at PP. Since I won't be tracking the car, it surely has a lot of race options that I won't need, especially PCCB, Dynamic Mounts, etc.
Thanks MayorThis, how spoiled am I here in MA there are 2 new RS's still in the showroom. However, it's a bit much for me to get the RS, so I need the base GT3.
Since you guys REALLY like the RS (who doesn't ), I took some quick showroom pix of the 2 RS in MA. These cars range from $156-159k.
In my ongoing search, I was wondering:
1. How expensive is it to service ceramic composite brakes over stock brakes?...
2. I found a new 2011 GT3, among many options that I don't need, it has Sport Bucket Seats which are not comfortable for weekend trips to Cape Cod. How expensive is it to replace/trade for simple stock seats?...

Karman,
Sounds like you're focused on the GT3 vs. the TT for sure now, even with the ride height concern. I am of similar opinion on the GT3 vs. RS. The RS is a bit over the top in color scheme, etc. vs. the std. GT3. Having said that, the rear wing on the GT3 is still a bit boy-racer versus the TT wing for me. But I really like the more raw and involved attitude of the GT3 vs. the TT for driving enjoyment.
Certainly, the exhaust note of the GT3 is something I would also favor vs. the TT, which virtually everyone dislikes in stock form. Adding an EP 1 could alleviate that for the TT, and certainly a Sharwerks bypass for the GT3 would make it even better. Good luck with your search.

DLJ, I also looked at an 2007 TT at the same dealership where they had the GT3 RS. The difference between ground clearances were ~1.5in. So, if you factor in the Front Lift System on an equipped GT3, the height difference becomes nil and you haven't sacrificed on looks and sound of having a GT3.
Yes, the GT3 still has the juvenile wing, but I can't justify spending $24k more for the TT just to get a more sedate looking wing. I don't have a nagging nor jealous wife to contend with, so the high wing should be OK.
Furthermore, the front fascia on the GT3 is the sexiest of all 911s, IMHO. The stock sound is to die for, and if I were to get a TT, I would want to change the exhaust immediately. Having said that, the price difference over the GT3 now becomes $30k+... As this thread has evolved, I've seemed to finally put my 1 year dilemma with the wing to rest - GT3 all the way, and I hope you do the same!

2. The sport buckets are HIGHLY coveted amongst the GT3 track set. At $5-6K, you should be able to sell them immediately to a Rennlister or 6 speeder. Replacement sport seats should run you around $2K so you'll come out ahead. Actual labor to swap is easy.

"Showroom Queen" - Imminent Problems?
I found a new GT3 which has graced the showroom for a year and only has 5 miles on the car. I haven't made an offer yet, but I saw the pix, and clearly the air is low on all the tires (zenith is taller than the nadir). Question: If this car has been sitting in the showroom, with just 5 miles, what if they didn't drive it once in a while? Could I be looking at imminent problems???... Please, be candid with remarks.
Sorry to keep bugging you guys, but I ask this very question because once I didn't drive a BMW during the winter for 5 months, and the poor car never ran right in the Spring - it developed a loud boomy hum in the cabin above 30mph, irrespective of rpm, clutch, or gear. No one could figure it out, I changed the tires - it did nothing. I wonder if it was the rear differential or the wheel bearings flattening out over time... Oh, well it's in the past.
ChrisEVO, thanks for the info about PCCB and the bucket seats. I didn't think the PCCB rotors and bucket seats would that expensive. . However, I admit the yellow brake assemblies do look sweet!
