Which Rims/tires for track days for GT3?

Buying a new set of wheel and tires for track day use for my girlfriends 996 GT3 mk1 and was wondering what kind of rims and tires you use.

Tires: For tires I was thinking of Michelin Pilot sport cup, but was is most commonly used with the GT3 and what do you use (brand and size)?

Wheels: I have looked a stock GT3 rims, OZ Ultraleggera, Forgeline and BBS but not sure what to get, like the OZ though?

I would be great to hear what 6speeders use on their GT3s.

Are you planning on driving to the track or do you have a trailer?

A lot of guys in the US use CCW's, but OZ are good inexpensive wheels as well. Maybe look into forgestar as well.

I opted for the OZ Superleggeras for my .2 GT3. So far no issues. Look great and seem pretty durable. I've been using MPSC's for track wheels since there are so few choices for the .2's. I think the preferred tire for tracking the .1 is the Toyo RA-1 (if you can find them still). I ran them for years on my last track car and loved them. If Nitto makes NT-01's for your sizes, those would be my first choice. Otherwise, there's the R888 which everyone seems to hate. Best of luck.

Oops, pushed SEND before finished...
Anyway, I have a set of CCW's and also a set of OZ...like them both a lot, but the OZ is certainly less expensive.
Tires: Lots of different opinions here as well. I have run both Toyo R888 (305 rear, 245 front), and Nitto NT01 (315 rear, 245 front), neither brand shaved or heat cycled before first use. I had some real disappointment with the R888, though...they heat cycled out with lots of tread still left...they just suddenly had a tread meltdown that felt like driving on sand and they looked like they had driven through soft tar, with the rubber just melting into globs stuck to the surface. Really bizzare. Before that, they worked great for probably 5 full track days. The 315 NT01's for the rear are not to Porsche spec for outside diameter (considerably smaller) and some people say not to use them because of that. The NT01's have worked great for me, with NO ISSUES with ABS, etc. For the first day or two they seem to have slightly less grip (my subjective feel) than the R888, but the NT01's seem to get better and better with use, right down to the cords. And, I have yet to experience heat cycling problems with the NT01's.
Hope that is of some help

Tires depend somewhat on your skill level. I believe the Corsa System and now the newer Trofeo are the fastest "street" tires you can run on these cars. Once you reach the limits of those, I think most people switch to Hoosiers.

Was here. I know the larger NT-01s (245, 315) will fit on stock 996 wheels, but not sure if I want to run them full time (street/track).

Except for the wet, NT01 is fine on the street, and great on the track.

Formula 43 offers a couple of different fitment options for the 996 GT3:

Front: 8.5X18 or 9.0X18

Rear: 11.0X18 or 12.0X18

Our RAD10 Club Sport Wheels are a great choice for track use.

-Radial 10 spoke design features a rotary forged center section and our exclusive German "Spin-Form" AL6061-T6 rim halves. This combination gives you excellent stiffness both in the center section and rims for increase steering response, light weight and quicker moment of inertia.

We can build either fitment option with black or clear anodized centers and also can build a black anodized whole wheel if you prefer.

I have a set of HRE wheels with Micheiin Sport cups that have been awesome on the track. The tires are expensive but they are more durable than the other tires I have tried.

Thanks guy for the advices, sounds like I won't go for the 888's .

Do you run 18" or 19" on track.

I will be driving the car to the track, don't like trailing the car... it's a Porsche .. but they will mainly be used for track.

Well, I think I will go with the Michelin PS Cup then as most of you seems happy with them. I loved my PS 2 I had on my supra before (could take alot of punish and did alot of milage on them before the wore out).

I really like the OZ, HRE are awesome but a little expensive for my taste for track days.

I also saw that there was a set of Forgeline VF1 for sale, anyone have any experience with them?

Been running the OZ Allegerita 8.5 and 11/18 on my 6GT3 with no issues and for less than $1600 they are great. My next choice would be CCW's. NT01 are great but as posted above the 1st couple of sessions are a little sketchy after that they work great to the end. If you want a street tire I would go with the Yokohama AD08, sticky, like heat, wear like iron and very progressive breakaway.

MPSCs on 19" HRE C22 wheels, or Hoosier R100s on 18" BBS E88 Motorsport wheels depending upon the event and how hard we're going to play.
