CARBON ROOF from GMG
#4
I really hope Porsche decides to start offering this on the 991's as an option. I can't believe they left it out of the GT2RS. I can't believe that they haven't stepped up to the plate on the GT3's and GT2's. But since they haven't, I've heard only good things about the GMG conversion. There was a thread a couple years ago on here by Matt Nunez I believe when he had his GT3 outfitted with the CF roof by GMG. Infact that car in the pix might even be his because I know his was one of the first done.

My car had a carbon fiber hood and doors installed for the Targa Newfoundland race last year. To be clear, they were NOT GMG components, which I am sure are top-notch, but they were good quality and not cheap. By the time the race was over, the hood and driver door were delaminating and no longer serviceable. One of my friends has a GT2RS and his CF side-view mirror cracked spontaneously and had to be replaced under warranty. I guess my point is that I am not confident in the long-term, or even medium term durability of Carbon Fiber.
Composites are used extensively in racing and modern aviation manufacture, and I suspect that the only way you can guarantee that it holds up is that it is fabricated with absolute perfection in design and technique. Perhaps in racing, it only has to withstand the race, just like so many of the other components. I am sure Porsche cuts no corners, but it still is not necessarily perfect. I have my doubts whether it is all it's cracked up to be. It is super light, super strong and sure looks cool, but when it comes to structural components on the after market, I am weary.

We are doing a carbon roof on the GMG WC-GT2 4.0 car we are building.
If you are in the area and want to stop by and check it out please feel free to do so.
In terms of fitment that really depends on the shop installing it.
When we do them in house they have a OE fitment and the headliner is perfect as well.
