The intake covers are already black, it's just hard to see in that pic.
.
Champion what exhaust changes did you guys do on this car? Which final muffler is that (it looks to be a cup one, is it INCONEL?) Is it porsche factorycup final muffler? What side pipes were used to bypass the side mufflers? Does it retain the factory sport flaps in the exhaust system??
It seems porsche has done a good job from factory to have these cars breathing exhaust gases as freely as possible. Nice to see the dyno charts and the cup muffler style exhaust system. Do let us know who makes it. I am very much subscribed to this thread. Love the orange on these gt cars.

Do you think the fvd/m&m system is better than the akrapovik sport/cup style system?

I don't enough experience with the Akrapovic system to make a fair comparison.

Here's a quick update, including a video of the car on the dyno. Unfortunately it's hard to get good audio from our dyno because it just get SO DARN loud in the shop that most microphones distort when we're trying to record. Also, a few pics of the tear-down.

nice update, I love that exhaust system. Great dyno vid. That's what we like to see. Keep the pics coming. Whats in store for that engine?
Did the dyno session produce a dyno sheet that we can see???

OK, time for a small update. Since we're sort of busy in our main shop and only have 5 lifts, we moved Ranger's project over to our Werks1 building and race shop, where we have 2 more lifts that aren't normally being used.
I managed to sneak over there the other day and grab a few pictures of the engine during the tear-down process. Sorry the quality isn't that great, I used my POS point and shoot camera. Anyway....enjoy. More to come..
It's worth noting that even considering it's age, mileage, and amount of track use, this engine is really clean! The head surfaces and cylinder surfaces show no signs of leakage or any excessive carbon buildup.
We'll do a proper welded fix for the water pipe to make sure it's not an issue down the road.

OK...it's been a while since I've updated this thread! They're not huge, but we recently had a nice handful of parts come in that are all lined up to be installed within the next week or so as things start to come together.
A must for any track car....the 996 Cup Car shifter cables from Porsche Motorsport are in line for install:
Since the car will basically become a dedicated track car, we're also installing these nifty little tie-downs which will make it easier to strap the car down to the trailer going to and from the track.
We'll also be installing a whole host of track goodies from the good guys up at Rennline. If you haven't checked out their products, you definitely should. Their track mats in particular, are a must for even casual DE events!
A couple more interior bits and pieces are this OMP flat-bottomed steering wheel. And of course, for safety, a set of Schroth HANS-specific harnesses.
Lastly , those with a keen eye will notice there's still something missing from the picture below. Stay tuned...there will be some pretty cool updates about that small missing piece that goes in the back of the car coming pretty soon. We like to save the best for last.
