I installed a set of 2 way Focal speakers in the front doors, and the sound is so much better now. The other thing to note as the Non PCM cars don't use MOST to communicate with Amp.

I prefer the .2GT3 for only one reason...no sunroof. As crazy as it may sound to some others, I HATE sunroofs on exotics/performance cars.

If I could buy a .1GT3 without a sunroof, I would buy it over THE .2GT3 in a heartbeat and pocket the delta. Although I would most likely do some engine mods to increase the HP.

I agree, my car is at a shop now having the sunroof removed. I am having it replaced with an RS roof skin, and it only requires 4 parts and a bit of labour to do the swap.

I agree with the sunroof delete..less weight, and a little extra headroom.

I have been fortunate to have owned a .1 and a .2 GT3 back to back. Forget the extra horsepower, etc. These two cars are as different as night and day. The .1 is easy, soft, quiet, etc. The .2 is much more raw. Loud, rough, faster, notchy shifter, not a daily driver! I drove a new 991 and then my car and they are the exact opposite. Drive both a .1 and a .2 and compare. I spent $23,000 more for my 2010 and it was well worth it.

I agree with Mooty. My own story: I didn't want a GT3 out of warranty. I didn't want a GT3 with high mileage. I much, much preferred the look of the .2 vs. the .1 -- the led lights, the front fascia, the CL rims. I wanted DEMS. I wanted a few years of warranty. If I wanted speed/value, I supposed a 05 GT3 with 20K for modifications would be the best deal, but I wanted a stunning looking car that is a beast.

Do the .1 GT3's include PSM or Traction Control? My thought is that this was only added in .2's.

interesting...

Do you mind sharing how much it costs to do such a conversion? Will a porsche service station perform this work or do you have to find a private shop that does custom work.

Also, if you don't mind, can you please post some before and after shots!! Thanks.

Parts are about $2K, but if you can find a headliner from a 996 GT3 you can save $1200, so in my case the other 3 OEM parts are about $800.? Mine is at a indi shop, but you could use a body shop or some that really knows what they are doing.

I am waiting for parts to arrive, but have been taking a few pictures.

My car had a leaking RMS and FMS when I got it with 3000 miles on it. It was addressed under warranty and has not been a problem since. I am under the impression that if you drive them with some regularity, then the incidence of RMS or FMS leaks is much less.

PASM is part of the suspension no? that is the little shock button you push for firm or soft suspension? or at least that is what I was referring to... I think PASM dampers (which are part of the suspension) suck in both cars for track use (my primary use). If they revised other suspension parts on the base GT3 then great as well... makes no difference on the street and for most de drivers the difference on the track would also be negligible.

With regards to your words in red above -- that is exactly what I am saying... the incremental improvements are what they are... I (me, just me) do not think the incremental improvements are worth the $25K+ price delta... I (me, just me) think that I would rather save the $25K+ OR if I was not in a saving mood, I (just me) would rather have a 997.1 GT3 with $25K worth of mods than a 997.2 GT3 that is stock. ($25K is 3.9SW and 4.0 BBI upgrade territory)

It is a simple value proposition and as moody stated value is relative, and I think your second sentence in red is saying that as well... so we sort of agree a little bit..

Buy whatever you want -- my opinion is only my opinion (which I think is obvious) but $25K to me is a year of tuition for one of my kids... so for a marginal hp increase, centerlocks, the same gearing, the same LSD, the same coolant pipes, a better chance of a dry RMS, better nav that I would not order, dem that I dont care about, and front end lift that I would not order -- it is not a good value proposition FOR ME.

Is the .2 a better car -- YES... $25K+ better? Not in my opinion..

A friend of mine just bought a low mile 997.2 GT3 for $114K... I find that to be totally ridiculous when a good 997.1 GT3 is $75K -- that is a $39K spread... but to him it was worth it... I get it.

In your words "to say if you have money to blow then go with a .2 is ridiculous" is from my perspective not at all ridicoulous.

For $25K+ more you get what you get... and only the buyer can determine if the improvements are worth it to him. TO ME they are not when comparing .1GT3 to .2GT3.
we seem to basically agree on some issues. I own a .2. and love it. For me it's worth $20-$25k ~ maybe even close to $30k~ delta all options/mileage/cond. being relative.

I can go on more about the RMS and fitting improvements, but seriously have no time right now.

.1s have TC. PSM was added to the .2s.

.2 is a better car period. Is it 20K better ? Absolutely !
If you drive it to work and play at on, off ramps... hum not so much.
For most that don't use the car to it's purpose, yes a .1 is cheaper and make more sense.
For those who will drive it, stick to the .2
Better aero
engine
no sunroof
suspension (no not just shocks and springs)
brakes
and stupid center locks

Does the roof skin require some type of spot welding? Sent you a PM about a used 04 GT3 headliner that I saw for sale..

The OEM roof is spot welded to a couple of cross beams. The replacement roof will be welded in as well. I will post a thread regarding the swap when the job is complete. Thanks for the lead, but I have a headliner already.

There are no cost effective engine mods available ~other than building a 3.9, etc. that will make the .1 any better than the .2.
