Lol, not a shortage of idiots in this world. The manual transmission was seriously holding back the performance potential. Now everyone wants 1.

I think these "rare" cars escalate in price for a few years as people chase them. The first owners tire of them as they have to have the next latest-greatest to hit the market and/or the price gets to where they want to pocket the profit. The cars then settle in to somewhat permanent homes. The car begins to lose it's luster, supply & demand come into balance and prices fall. Then, MAYBE, the car gains in value as very few come to market. I think that is happening to the Carrera GT now as prices seem to be rising but not back to MSRP. Just my opinion.

It's insane actually. How are 4.0s within 5-10% of CGT money???

Exactly. It's ridiculous. But the market is speaking.

Warning: Run on sentences. Don't care enough to rework it.

When I was purchasing mine, my choices were 430 scud, lfa, cgt or 4.0. I did not like the LFA purchase process (forced lease) and immediately discarded the cgt because I like to drive my cars (I have put 9000 miles on my 4.0 in a year). The cgt would have been fairly expensive to drive daily. I was torn between the 4.0 and the scud to the point that I almost decided to keep the 3.8 and add a scud later but when an opportunity for a mint 4.0 arose, I decided to take it and wait for the market on scud to go from 200K+ in those days to about 140K shortly from now. I think that all worked out very well.

That is what I was thinking. I could not imagine spending that much money on a 4.0 if the price is that close to a CGT. To each their own though.

As long as a '73 RS is bringing $400-500k, I think the 4.0 will stay up there.
Also, don't forget only about 126 or so made it to the U.S. Out of the 600.
They made 3x that many '73s. Problem is that as we age, we realize that we can't take them with us!!!

Well, that's one (funny) way of looking at it. But another way is to understand that the 991 GT3 (and upcoming RS) can be built in much higher quantities due to the production process involved in making the engine. The Mezger held back the 997 era (and earlier) GT3s as it was the bottleneck for production, and the main reason that there are so few of those.

The 991 GT3 will not be a future collectible if production numbers go as high as I've read they might. I hope they intentionally limit production of the 991 GT3 RS to allow it to become collectible.
