SPF4000, if you have time when you get back, an after-action report (what to do and what not to do) would be great. I would say have fun, but how could you not have fun?
Just finished the track day. The event ran from 8AM-12:30PM, and I got 16 laps in during that time, with one 30 min break while they towed several cars that got caught out during the thunderstorm that hit us for 15 min.

The car I rented was a Citroen DS3 from Rent4Ring, and all in all, it was a very good experience. I only got an hours worth of instruction from Andy at the beginning, but in hindsight, I should have gotten instruction for another hour or two to really get better at the track.

My recommendations:
1. GT5 is good for learning which way the track goes. It sucks for actual important information like where the dangerous spots are, and what to really look out for, but at least by learning the track on it, you'll know which way the next turn flows.
2. Watch the Youtube videos of guys running on the track. Those are much more useful from a learning where they lift, where they are conservative.
3. If it's your first time going, or if you've not been on tracks frequently, go for the Swifts. Anything more is too much car for your first time out on track. The biggest accident during the day was with a rental Exige that thought the track was dry enough to get on the gas on a fast sweeper, only to realize that wasn't the case.

There are several places you can rent cars from for the Ring, but I chose Rent4Ring based on recommendations from my coworker who went before. I'm really happy with them, but you can also look at RSR an RentRaceCar, which are also good options too.

I'll put up pics later.

Thanks for the tips and the recommendations... good write-up. I have tons of hours on the track but I have never been there so I plan on doing as many "ride-alongs" before I actually drive the track as possible. For me, a Carrera 4 would be the idea car to take around the ring but I will view the other options as well.

Thanks again...

In my 170HP DS3, I was passing poorly driven 997.2 911 Turbo S, Exige 260s and more. That track is about understanding how to drive it over how much power your car has. I'd be the 911 would be fantastic around the ring once you're comfortable driving around the track.

My suggestion would be to rent a Suzuki Swift for the first day with an all-day instructor, then get a faster car the next day (as well as another day of instruction). Guaranteed you will be ear to ear grins on both days!

Yea I agree, but I would want the C4 bc I own one and I am familiar with it, versus learning a car that I have never drove. In the C4 I am familiar with the handling/brakes/suspension, etc., so I would be eliminating one out of the 2 unknown variables. I wouldn't want the C4 because of HP or to try and brake any lap records, just something familiar in an unfamiliar track.

Here's the video of the Exige losing it.

On another note, I just got back and tried driving the track in GT5 again. The thing I noticed is that the bumper cam view that I was using is too misleading with the wide angle of view that makes the track look wider than it is. The roof cam and the onboard cams are much more accurate in terms of making the track look "right" in terms of the width. But it does feel funny driving from the roof view, and the ****pit cam is not ideal unless you have the rig at just the right distance from the monitor.

Wow. Very nerve racking at times but then again drivers on the ring should know when to let someone pass and not make a noob move like they do when driving on highways here.
