Don't underestimate the Ford GT until you really drive one. It may not feel much faster than a TT or a GT2, but believe me, it is. I have seen a couple sub 700 mile dynos and these cars are seriously underrated. One made 540hp at the wheels which makes sense given a few magazines tested these cars in the quarter mile at around 130mph. Keep in mind that the car uses a supercharger, and one Ford magazine tested the car with just a pulley change and a PCM flash at over 134mph in the mid 10s. The car is light and geared for quick accleration. I hear Borla is offering a complete exhaust system that adds 50hp. For whaty will probably be around 5 thousand bucks you can have a rare, unique 'exotic' that makes between 600-650hp at the wheels and will compete with any other exotic out there.

I don't think anyone answered this, what are the other "design problems" with the Ford GT?

The Saleen GT errr I mean the Ford GT has gobs of power to be developed with it's supercharged engine as does the 03 and 04 SVT cobra's. I am speaking strictly of a stock Ford GT. Since only 350 or so Ford GTs have actually been sold and most are sitting in the service departments how many production cars are there to compare from?

We can take a stock 996 turbo and increase the boost and remap the ECU and have the same HP as the modified Ford GT without having to worry about replacing the control arms etc. Low mile GT2s are in the low 100s and with less than 300 built over the 4 year build run are much rarer than the 3000 Fords being built and significantly better built than a Ford or Saleen or who ever built that car IMHO.

And as an all around supercar for an extended over night drive which is the more comfortable and practical supercar the Ford or an X-50 TT? Which would you rather drive through bad weather?

You bought a RED Ferarri and also own an 04 SVT cobra? I never would have thought you had it in you? Who would have thought we have so much in common after so many philosophical disagreements? One never knows what Skeletons one has in their car closet?

In regard to the Cobra it is at least half the price of the Vette and has GOBS of power waiting to be unleashed from within the bowels of it's handbuilt supercharged engine. The suspension can be upgraded and tuned. The car is just a block of clay waiting for an artist to make it come alive.

Watt, driving pimp red ferrraris and modern muscle cars!!!! Groovy baby! What color is your cobra?
Les,

owned not own, it was black. cobra is where i learned what "axle tramp" meant!! gotta broaden your horizons into primative lifeforms!!!!

and why a CS in red? it's best value, $5-10K cheaper!!!

and yes the z06 may change the entire market, by providing a new price/performance equation. it may force Porsche to put a big engine in the boxster s which i keep asking for. free markets are great: the z06 may lead to many choices of performance <$100K that used be cost twice as much. we as consumers win.

Just do your homework and contact the dealers selling cars on Ebay. If you are serious they will quote you serious and realistic prices. Cases in point: I contacted several dealers listing cars on Ebay and they offered me red/white, black/silver, and silver/black ones ranging from $170-$180k without even putting up a fit. One dealer just sold one for $10k over sticker ($165k) so prices are coming down.
