At the time, the facelift came as a free option, and rumor has it that only one guy went with the round headlights (among the street cars, of course). Can't verify it, but it's interesting.

dumb question:

what's the significance of the 959? Why is it so expensive?

the one with the round headlights is the first version of the GT1 which is based on the 993 chassis. the "facelift" is just the 2nd iteration of the GT1 based on the 996 chassis.

I've heard he's a really nice guy, and I believe all the cars at WestCoastMotorsports are Gerd's cars. When I grow up, I wanta be like Gerd.
Gerd Petrik i believe is the heir to the Bayer fortune, which, aside from producing the over-the-counter pain reliever, is also a major chemical production company in Europe...one of the most welthy men in the world no doubt. well after reading through that painfully long article to make sure i didn't spew any false or already stated information, i realized that it was written in 2000...a little outdated. my brother knows his daughter, and apparently the last time he saw her, she was rolling in one of 3 cars, either an e46 M3, a Mustang Saleen (not sure what year), or a luxury SUV (escalade maybe?...can't remember).

anyways, FOLLOW THIS LINK to my brother's photo albums. at the bottom of the page you will find an album called "St. Pete Vinoy Hotel," which was the location of an autoshow at which many of Petrik's cars were showing. His F50, CLK GTR, and 996 GT1 are all at the show and in the pics. there's also a 959 in there somewhere, but i'm not sure if it belongs to Petrik. anyways, enjoy the pics.

btw, feel free to check out the other albums. the estoril blue M Coupe is my bro's (slammed on ground control coilovers...unfortunately there are no good shots of the Eisenmann race exhaust) and the dakar yellow e36 M3 belongs to his buddy Keith (icemann633 on Bimmerforums.com), whose motor is being built as we speak to accomodate a custom turbo setup that will make his car a 600-650 RWHP beast! OK...this ends my shameless plug.

oh yeah, and if i had $800,000 to spare, i would undoubtedly spend it all, if not more, on a 911 GT1. it is one of my favorite cars along with the GLK GTR and Toyota GT1 road cars.

Damn that Gt1 is nice. Tough call though, 1 GT1 or 2 CGT's.

That car is amazing. Last time I saw it was at the Suncoast winter gtg. It was parked right out in front of the entrance. Just amazing.

By the time a 959 is serviced, updated, and federalized, it's a $500K+ car.
