GT3 or C6 Z06: Which is the better weekend car?
Hey guys,
I have been trying to decide between an 03' 996 tt and a GT3 for some time. I am definitely leaning towards the GT3 for its performance focus.
As a side note, I am also very interested in the new C6 Z06. In fact, I have a #2 reservation spot at a Chevy dealer. I know that it should be a no brainer picking the GT3, after all it is a Porsche versus a Chevrolet. However, the Z06 looks to be a performance monster with trick parts for only $70k.
My main concern with the Z06 is the lack of handling feel and precision and more importantly overall quality, but the lure of 428 cubic inches, 505 hp and 470 lb ft of torque in a 3100 pound car sounds like lots of fun!
What do you guys think? Here are the primary factors for my decision process:
1. Fun to drive
2. Handling prowess
3. Powerful acceleration
4. Driving intensity and character
5. Modability (primary reason I was considering the 996 tt)
6. Reliability
I will primarily drive the car on the weekends for aggressive street driving, a little canyon carving and 3-4 PDEs annually. Thanks for your feedback.
George

Having tracked both GT3 and TT - go with the GT3. It is a drivers car. The TT is faster but it has nothing to do with your capability. Go with the GT3 - people will pass you but you'll be a better driver

Define weekend. Is it at the track hauling *** (get the GT3), or is it leisure drivng (get the TT) ? The new C6 Z06 looks like a beast. I guess it really depends. Some people really only care about acceeration #'s/top speed. For that set the C6 Z06 sounds hard to beat. If you value a greater overall experience from a great track experience, but then having a really nice car when you drive during the weekday to work, or the weekend to a nice restarant than the Porsche might be a better option.

Can't go wrong with a TT for being good at everything. But the 3 is pretty damn close IMO, and its worlds better on the track, and heaps more fun to drive.
As far as the Z06, well I am sure its a very fast car. But as I've said before, you couldn't give me one if it came with jenna jamison strapped to the hood

If the majority of mileage driven is going to be on the street, I would highly recommend the tt. Also the tt is very mod friendly with goobs of torque down low which is hard to beat on the street and is no slouch at the track. With a few simple mods you can have much more performance and have the best of both worlds without sacrificing too many creature comforts. And, at this moment it's the best deal for the money.
GT3 is nice if your weekend is spent on the track. Other than that it's abit plain for the street, can get noisy, rattles. But that's a good thing for some owners.
Another note if you plan on canyon slamming the PSM is valueable! I can't stress this! Also not sure which canyons you are running but if you have steep elevation inclines the torque is an advantage.

996 tt or GT3
Hi guys,
Thanks for the feedback. I don't know why this decision is so difficult for me to make. I have driven the turbo a lot, but feel it needs an edge. I have driven the GT3 a handful of times and love it's intensity and how it handles, but wonder if it is too hardcore for me over the long haul. I really am on the fence on this one. Here are the qualities I love of both cars:
Fun to drive: GT3 (It is a much more intense driving experience to me)
Sound: GT3 (I like the rawness of the engine and exhaust)
Handling: GT3 (I prefer RWD to AWD, but will PSS9's bring the two much closer?)
Appearance: 996 turbo (I love the turbo flares)
Interior: 996 turbo (I prefer the fulll leather interior, Bose and etc)
Modability: 996 turbo (Stage 4 Can a few mods make the turbo a lot edgier like the GT3?)
Practicality: 996 turbo (Back seat may be helpful for my kids)
Also, I only attend a few track events a year, so track performance is not paramount.
Please keep the advice coming. Thanks!!

I can't believe the turbo is winning this. It's a great car and all, but not something I would buy if I wanted a Porsche. The GT3, IMO, is much truer to the Porsche name. If I wanted lots of power and modability, I would just get the Z06 and save a bundle. The GT3 is a beautiful drivers car, I liken the turbo to more of a GT. If it is just a weekend car, and you have the daily driver thing down, I would defnitely spring for the more exciting GT3.

it's not really the point which one is winning or losing. the point is which car fits ur need the best. i don't know how the Vette is going to be like but i'm not a fan of it anyways. here is my opinion on both Porsches:
1. Fun to drive - GT3
2. Handling prowess - GT3
3. Powerful acceleration - depends on which kind of acceleration u're looking for but generally u'll feel the Turbo is faster.
4. Driving intensity and character - GT3
5. Modability - Turbo
6. Reliability - both are about the same
Last - I will primarily drive the car on the weekends for aggressive street driving, a little canyon carving and 3-4 PDEs annually - GT3
i'm not biased in anyway (except in Vette ). both cars are clearly built for difference purpose. in ur case GT3 fits what u're looking for better.
