So how would the 'scam auction' work for a car like this? 2010 GT3

I smelled a scam... but emailed anyway... the response I got:
Hello there,
Thank you for your interest in my 2010 Porsche 911 GT3. The price I want to obtain for the vehicle is $65,000 US (this price includes shipping and insurance charges). It is like new, completely working, perfect running condition, with no hidden damages or accidents,it has always been garage kept, low miles, non-smoker no flood or storms. The title is clear and you will be able to register the vehicle in your state without any problems.
I am requesting a $65,000 refundable deposit at the beginning of the shipping. If you are not 100% content with the vehicle you will be able to ship it back on my expense to get your deposit back. I am sure this will not happen, because it is a state of the art vehicle and you will have no reasons not to be content with it.
We will use eBay Motors as third party. First you will pay the funds to eBay and you will send the receipt proving your payment to eBay. Please note that eBay will hold your deposit of $65,000 until you will confirm that you received the vehicle and you transferred the title into your name.
If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, home and shipping address, eBay ID so I can register the transaction with eBay asap.
...waiting for your fast answer, Brian Colvin

Sounds exactly like one of those Nigerians......
They will send you a link to "eBay", which is a site that created to look like eBay and then have the unsuspecting individual to send them the money.

Warranty
he screwed up where it says no warranty, it's a 2010 so it would still have one. And ya these ppl are always doing this with bogus escrow type 3rd party links to sites they create, that will say eBay.freesites.com or whatever

Unfortunately aholes like that exist. One way to curb this nonsense is to footprint your photos.
eBay is cesspool for scams. The fraud dept there is a joke. I've actually called them to report obvious scams and the clowns on the other end of the line are clueless. The loss of money that Paypal must pay every year must be pretty high. I've decided not to point out anymore obvious scams to those idiots as my services and time are not free.
In summary if and when a deal seems to good to be true, it usually is.

my response:
Brian,
Thanks so much!! I really like the car, enough that I want to fly out at the end of this week to see it (and perhaps drive it home). Where should I book my flight too?

Hi Jon,
I told you in my first e-mail that I'm located in Hilo, Hawaii.
I can ship you the car. And we can make this deal with help of eBay Purchase Program. They will act as a third party in this transaction. I will contact them to send you the invoice for your purchase. After you make the payment to them, I will ship you the car. You will receive 5 days inspection period, that means you will test the car and see there is nothing wrong with it. After the inspection period, you have to contact eBay Purchase Program and they will release the funds to me.
Please let me know ASAP

All my best

What can also happen on ebay is someone hacks you ebay account. This usually happen when you click on an email with a link to sign into your account. When they have your ebay password, they will list items under your account and redirect the payment funds to them. Usually a higher priced item for way cheap. They get the money and never ship the items. Then you get a call from the buyer/ebay asking for the item and you end up in a battle. Moral of the story, if it's to good to be true, most likely is. You can report the to the FBI but most likely they are out of the country and really can;t do much about it. Check out Chris Hasens "To catch a thief" (same as "To catch a predator"). They try to catch someone like this and you start to understand how hard it is to do so.

Its really hard to imagine the kind of person who sleeps well at night after spending the day concentrating on scamming innocent people out of $65k. There should be a global task force (headed by me) taking care of all the animal abusers, child sex buyers and scammers. Im serious...
