The first car I saw pictures of that made me want a brighter green color was a GT-3 RS from a couple years ago. It was a new car out of Florida,
probably a 997.2, from a Porsche dealership (Suncoast?).

However, the search for what RS Green really is has been frustrating.

I have spent many hours researching trying to determine whether 997 GT-3 RS green is it's own color code, or whether it is signal green or viper green. I find many conflicting reports. Show me an answer that sounds definitive and I can find at least one more than refutes it. Some even say viper green is the same as emerald green. One even says that 997.1 RS green is different than 997.2 RS green because the later is water based.

Does anyone really have a definitive answer?

Or are viper, RS or signal green close enough that it does not matter much?
I do not know where the name "viper" green comes from, but according to what I have heard from Porsche the name - on the .2 greens at least - is "RS" green. There were 60-70 .1 RS in green, and 4 .2 RS in green (two in US, one in Ireland, and one in Dubai). The car that sold out of Suncoast in Florida was exact color as mine, which is "RS" green, color code 2D8. Signal green is NOT the same thing. I have never seen one in person but from pictures and from what I have heard, it is a bit lighter, and has more of a very slight yellow tone vs a very slight "blue" tone in the "RS" green. Not that you see blue in my car, but it is just brighter, deeper green than Signal. Hard to put into words....but it is definitely different. The .1 RS color is basically exactly the same....but the paint is different - something like water based vs oil based...don't quote me on that. So while the name and color may be the same, there could be a subtle difference. I have seen .1s and the color is very similar, but I have not seen one side by side with my car.

The blues are awesome too and I love them almost as much as green. I believe there were a very small number of Mexico blue .2 RS made, but most of the pics of .2 RS you will see pictures of are Riviera blue - a few in the US, a few outside US, at least 8 total made I think.

A lot of the pics of these cars do not really capture the "true" color. PM me your email if you want and I'd be happy to send a few good pics that to my eye are most representative of what the car looks like in the flesh.

I love Riviera. Its GORGEOUS, be a baws and get red wheels with that .

But I would say definitely go with Signal Green. Its such a great looking color. In person its out of hand ridiculous. It makes the car look special rather than just bold. I redid my R56 in SG and I am one happy camper. I was unaware there was any actual difference between the .1 and .2 greens. I texted a buddy of mine who works at a paint shop and he says his computer shows the green color paint formula for 2008 GT3RS and 2011 GT3RS are identical. He's going to let me know later if he sees anything else.

The problem with comparing pics of .1 and .2 is that the actual Signal Green paint looks so different in multiple lights. Sometimes it looks to be warmer, colder, paler, more saturated. For example my R56 looks different in all the pics. Anyway maybe I'm wrong, maybe there is a difference in the greens. If I find something out I will update you guys.

Not sure PTS is available for the GT3, yet. Last month, the factory rep and dealer told me, no. My guess they will provide a few PTS colors, and the buyer will chose from only those colors. I also wanted an interior color, other than black, and it is no available either. Probably never.

Have your dealer check with their factory rep to confirm availability of PTS. Hopefully it has been changed.

I know there are many hearty nods towards the greens, but that azurro blue metallic is gorgeous.

Don't remove. That car is awesome and people need to be more tolerant. The car is a PTS example of a Porsche color for goodness sake. Dig the car and the color. Want a 991 RS in that color someday soon!

Thanks ECS. You guys finally sent me the GP2 goodies I waited a couple weeks for. Usually you guys are lightning quick but I understand the GP2 stuff is taking time to get. Anyway you guys came through like always. Can't wait to get the diffuser and front intakes on.

The GP2 stuff has been taking a little longer to get in unfortunately. You'll have to snap a few pictures once you get it installed. Thank you again for the support and feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns. Enjoy
