If he hand't had abs he would have been able to correct the spin by locking ti up and going off tangent making a steering correcting and being able to return to deceleration or at least lock all 4 untill he stopped instead of getting absolutely no braking effect.
HANS would have absolutely helped if he had a 5pt in it the teathers when adjusted properly limit ALL range of motion, no need for a "halo seat"

^ per the vivid racing post describing a HANS device..
"The HANS device (Head and Neck Support) was developed to prevent neck injuries and skull fractures by restraining your head from snapping FORWARD in the event of an accident."
The "elephant ears" on a halo seat are there for lateral impact protection. Is it needed? Guess it depends how much money you want to save on your head. Both systems together offer the most protection. There are also other products that do offer protection from any angle such as necksgen, etc.. If one doesn't want to add a halo seat

Driver also should have stayed put until safety workers got there, and kept his helmet on...you can see cars still running on the track...if there was oil, there would have likely been another car coming in to crash into him. Very dangerous situation.
