996 GT3 Mk1 - conversion to Carrera2-Look

In order to satisfy my masochistic side in me, I thought I post some pics of my latest project. I just bought a nice '99 Mk1 GT3 and converted it to Carrera-2 looks in order to be used for street&city driving.

Wanted to have a Carrera-2 Looking car (inside&out) without the typical streetcar options (satnav, sunroof, rearwiper, interior trims) but with the strong mechanicals and driving thrill of a GT3. Got it now.

Let the ****storm begin...

Great idea... What was involve to make the rear wing work automatically? I believe aerokit cars don't have anything set up for that?

So I guess you are an anti-poser.

What a breath of fresh air. When most would take a regular carrera and make it look like a GT3, you do the opposite. Kudos to you!

Rear wing erection was not the problem. It gets info from the gaugecluster and does its thing without any other device.
Airbox fitting with the new decklid was the much more trickier part as those two engines are very different animals.

Very interesting... What did you do to the airbox for the decklid to fit properly?

I'm trying to understand how changing the look of the vehicle from a GT3 to a C2 makes it incrementally more suited for street & city driving. Or is your reference to "usability" more in reference to the lower appeal of the car to pedestrians? If so, I would like to remind you that you still drive a bright red shiny Porsche sports car, and it will still attract attention.

I suppose your project does accomplish this second objective and hope you enjoy the every city/street mile you put on the car.

Cheers -

Looks good. I was thinking of doing that with my car too. The RS wing and other bits makes it stick out a little too much to put around in. But I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

^I would have to agree and would be more than happy to help alleviate you of some of those parts.

Don't know the complete technical details. Mechanic said something about GT3 4.0 parts. Said he will built a a box around the airfilter next time he has the car. Looks pretty lowtech now . But as he is a top mechanic and no BS guy, I believe him when he said that he really had a hard time fitting anything.

[QUOTE=Sfarooq;3940437]I'm trying to understand how changing the look of the vehicle from a GT3 to a C2 makes it incrementally more suited for street & city driving. True. Still a bright red Porsche, but I can't be accused of driving around town in a boyracerlook car.
Choose red because there are not many "not silver or black" cars over here. As I bought the car with collectors thoughts, so I was looking very hard for red or yellow (or unusual color) as I think sportscar colors will be valued higher than business car colors and it looks more special when I aproach my car and so gives me a bit of the feeling of occasion.

Really hard to find one in good condition that is not tweaked for track or performance reasons also. Even though I tweaked it now, my car can be changed back to original looks with very little work, should selling time come someday.

Somehow think this will be a very cool car to own in the future, as 996 GT3's are the last "real driver" Porsches, as they were the last to not have electronic driver aids like PSM or traction control. 997's already have that switchgear (therefore less hardcore) and 991's are a different thing anyway.
