Why I most likely WILL buy one.

Okay, so today I got more than a ride. I got to drive. And NO I didn't go crazy, NO I didn't go to the car's limits, NO I didn't drive it up and down 100 driveways.

I did drive it on a drive I often do as one of my pleasure drives. And I can tell you that I was VERY VERY impressed once I was behind the wheel on roads I knew.

I agree with others -- I suppose it would be better not to try to use it everyday, due to clearence issues. That is the ONLY strike against it for me.

Performance -- As good as you all hear. However, it was MUCH more driveable then I had heard. This happened with the GT2 as well. In and out of late afternoon traffic on the PCH, red lights...etc. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?! SERIOUSLY?! THE CAR IS NOT HARD TO DRIVE AT ALL!!!!

I could, and probably will, post more later on the actual drive however I can sum it all up by saying -- I can't tell you what the interior looked like, or what the radio said on the little screen...etc. I honestly forgot about all of that. ALL I DID WAS DRIVE BECAUSE THAT WAS ALL I WANTED TO DO. Within 2 minutes I forgot about anything but the road, the car, and me. Honestly, totally f$*king forgot about everything else. In that way, it reminded me of piloting a small plane.

Visibility? PERFECT. Better than my 430 spider. I disagree with others who think otherwise. Driving position? PERFECT. Shifter -- A LEVEL BETTER than anything else. Clutch -- to be honest, I wish I never heard they were tough, because the only trouble I had was because I was expecting it to be tough. As soon as I got over that it was honestly a NON-ISSUE.

There are things other cars do better. My 430 spider sounds sexier. The interior is more sumptious. I can list things like that that are better on the 430 -- and then I want to throw them in the trash because the CGT is for driving.

IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE AN EVERYDAY GO TO THE MALL AND LOAD YOUR GROCERIES CAR. To be that would be to sacrifice other qualities. The car has one purpose -- to be driven. Period. It should only be bought by people not expecting a compromise. You drive this car when you want to go for a drive. You drive your other cars the other times.

Having now experienced an Enzo and CGT from the driver's seat, I can say -- the Enzo is actually more everyday. And the CGT is actually more pure.

Good post, man. If you can rationalize the pricetag, then I don't see why any Porsche enthusiast would be adverse to purchase such a vehicle.

It still boggles me how many members here actually are able to justify a car that retails at over twice what the average home in this country costs, though.

The Carrera GT is amazing isn't it? And to think I have barely seen it twice in real life and driving/riding in it is still a dream but damn I love this car

MORE -- And how it compares to the 430 spider...

Okay, a little more.

First of all, it is a day later and I'm still thinking about the car. And the weird thing about that is there are several areas where, as I mentioned before, I don't think it compares to the 430 spider. But that is the point with CGT, it is so purely focused on driving, that you still are thinking about it the next day. It reminds me of the way I felt when I got into my first 993 tt, a total skeptic, convinced a turbo was frivoulous, until the dealer pushed the throttle to the floor...

430 Spider.

First, a little background. Since I became fortunate enough to be able to afford a car that was fancier than a 20 year-old Saab I started with, I've gone throught 993, 993tts, m5, 575s, 996tt,gt2...etc.

I'm an addict.

The 959 was the culmination of a childhood fantasy and it is a marvel, to this day.

But the 430 blew me away. Why? Versatitlity, enjoyability, feel..etc. For once the car reviews were right. It is light years ahead of anything Ive driven from Ferrari that wasn't a super car. For anyone thinking about getting one, you will not be disappointed. It is fast, nimble, sounds amazing...etc.. The chasis, suspension...all a level better than ever.

AND YET

When I drove the CGT, I got this feeling -- let's call it "the chills" -- And I actually liked the fact that it was spartan. I admired the fact the car really seemed to say "yeah, all that stuff is nice, but I'm built for speed and speed, and then more speed." -- And it reminded me of how I felt after I got out of that first 993tt that day, and stumbled to lunch with my friends, trying to explain to them what had just happened. Trying to explain why I was in a daze.

I realize this is a bit of a repeat of what I posted before, but my point is -- a day later and those feelings still linger.

There has never been a car I wanted as much as the CGT. There has never been a car that from sight alone made me feel woozy. There has never before been a car, with the one exception of the 959, that had me awake at night imagining what it would be to sit behind the wheel and feel what happens when the loud pedal was made to scream.

Though I have never been graced with the experience in riding one, the CGT is placed on that mental list of cars that will never be forgotten, never be slighted by future technology, and never be viewed as anything other than the culmination of everything great that makes Porsche, Porsche.

The 959 is still my all time favorite road going Porsche. A 959 and CGT would be the ultimate garage.
