Sound Package Plus...

Sound Package Plus...
Ok, Sorry for this question, especially for the diehard GT3 owners. But the only upgrade for the GT3 on the stereo front is the Sound Package Plus. If one were to order to spec their GT3 is there anyway Porsche could put in a Bose or Burmester stereo for an extra charge? I know the engine sound is all you need, but I want more, and would be willing to pay a premium... I can live without a sunroof and backup cameras, but I really want to listen to high end audio when I drive. Even the 997 GT2 had the Bose system which is better then the SP+...
Has anyone heard of Porsche selling an option that is normally not offered in that model but for a price they would?...
Thanks,
P.S. Just came back from the Houston Auto Show, and the two cars that stood out the most was the 991 GT3 and the new M4.

Thanks for the reply and the information. Looks like we have similar taste in cars as my top two choices as I mentioned earlier are the M4 and GT3 followed by the 991 TTS.

I am audiophile too. I think the Bose system is just fine in a car. A car has so much ambient noise a high end system is a waste. IMHO Burmiester is very expensive and not all that great. Either car or high end stereo.

Yes the Burmester system is expensive but when I look at the price of the car if I am going to spend that much might as well go all of the way.... Just my humble opinion of course.
There are just times when I am driving say slow and stuck in traffic that I would like to listen it some great sounding audio. Or driving more aggressive with the windows down and jamming to some good tunes.
Each of our needs are different and if they can offer nicer stereos in previous GT Porsches they should be able to do it again.
May have to look into after market gear which does not make me very excited.

I have a 997.2 GT3 and plan to do an upgrade sometime. Here is the best post on this subject that I have found:

I have Burmester in my 991 cab, and the Sound Package Plus in my GT3. I, too, would have gotten the upgraded stereo (above SPP) in the GT3...it seems they are leaving some money on the table. The Sound Package Plus is not very good. I would be ok with adding the extra weight for the audio performance - this GT3 is such a dual-purpose car - calm and reserved when doing normal driving, and on the edge when pushed (not very hard). Would be nice to have the better audio option.

Thanks for letting me know. I will be looking into the aftermarket brands to see what is available.

The aftermarket is where to look. I have an incredible system (entirely aftermarket from head to amp to speakers) in my RS. Incredible quality, wonderful sound, and great features. Car Audio Innovations in Roseville, Ca (near Sacramento) is the best there is in this regards. My system cost around $7K, but you can spend upwards of $50 to $70K if you want to go over the deep end. I would agree with earlier postings that at a certain point, the vehicle is too noisy to hear any difference, but some owners like the tech end of it, and those $12K a pop amps sure look cool with all their blinking lights, and fancy packaging.

Rod's great!
He also does some budget friendly installs. I had him do custom dual subs and an amp in my 964. It came out incredible and the sound difference was remarkable....all installed for less than $1K. Of course that was 10 years ago!

Since I am in Houston I will have to find an installer locally. But at least I will have a better idea on what to add.
Thanks again...

trek737, The setup Rod installed is as follows: Kenwood Excelon DNX9990hd (has since be replaced by the DNX9999 I think). This unit hasa 7" screen, great NAV, am/fm/ iPod, sat radio, hd radio, CD, telephone interface, and everything else you can think of including backup camera capability. The amp I used is an Alpine 5-channel 600w PDXV9. The door and dash speakers are the Hertz 6.5" 3-way HSK163.3. The rear panel speakers are Focal 4" coaxials PC100. The 8" twin sub units (fit in the well behind the front seats) are units custom made by Car Audio Innovations and referred to as CAI with Kenwood Excelon 8" KFCXW800F speakers. The subs are necessary so that you don't try and pump too much bass through the door speakers and end up destroying them. Add into this a mess of wiring, cables, sat antennas, iPod and usb cables, etc., etc., and you are on the better side of $7K including installation. Like I said previously, it sounds great, and I look at it as money well spent. Rod and the gang did a beautiful installation job with no complaints. Here is a link to the first phase of my install before the subs, rear speakers, and Alpine amp.
I hope this helps.
