Engine gasket that leaked - engine pulled ( " factory uses better gasket gunk now - yours has the leaky one " ; fuel lines disconnected from the fuel tank ( " common, known problem due to design of the connector - new one could do it again " ); loose power steering fluid hose can cause fire when let's go or in my case covered entire engine with oily goop thta stank for months after ( there was a recall but my car was produced 1 month before it was supposed to be a problem ) ; couldn't get car out of second gear coming to stops ( " rusted throw out bearing - a common problem " . My excellent team of techs just roll their eyes and enumirate all the known Turbo issues . ( I won't share all the stuff THEY know about these cars ). Still can't wait to get the first 997 Turbo- 6th 911 overall - expected problems and all . I love em !

Had a '97 C5 for two years between the 993 and 996 - most reliable car I've had in 20 years . You write as if you haven't owned a Porsche ! BTW, ask PCNA about what happens if you want to track your little "race track honed " street 911 . Porsche - there is no substitute . Over and out from planet Earth .

I'll be more impressed if you say this after you own the car for a month or so. Can't wait for your impressions.

Watt, don't fall head first into GM'smarketing machine. Also MT is without a doubt the most bought rag in the universe -- bought by GMC that is.

But I guess they already got your money. See you at TOW when you get it.

I know watt has been intellectually challenged lately and probably considering ordering one of these ... .anyone else in that group?

Some new FACTs elequantely stated by WATT:

"the z06 abso f.g lutely roxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. "

"anyone see the pix of the undertray"

"i'm dropping gt3 seats in mine, and f.k the gold chain jokes, the fools will be driving something more expensive."

I LOVE THESE TWO FACTS BEST:

"the z06 changes the entire performance world with gt2 performance for 65!!!! it's faster at the ring than a f.g pagani!!!!"

"face it boys, this car means Ferrari andf Porsche had better get to work"

Watt did mke one great point.

The ZO6 makes for a great open road race car in the upper timed classes, maybe 160 average speed.
And it is disposable if it gets balled up.

Wattster,I think I have a tire solution, the seats are a no brainer and Craig can handle the cage, (as he did in my M5) I am sure.

cheers

Performance for the Buck Corvette=1.
Now would I buy a Corvette? NO. unless I had the Extra Cash to throw around. The price of a basic C06 is around that of a Porsche Boxster, and with the Corvette having harder acceleration and High HP I still would buy the Boxster because is more refined and I have a passion for Porsches. For someone else the reason for buying a car might be totaly different.
Now what Upsets me is That Porsche is not pushing as hard as it should to raise the performance #'s of the 911 and Upcoming Turbo. From the rumors the Power increases are not that High.
Now every person is drawn or attracted and makes the decision of buying a car for different reasons. Most are brand loyalists that would not trade their cars even for faster ones.
The Z06 might be better but still not accurately compared to a Turbo. The Turbo is the one that should be competing, I mean Exceeding this performance #'s, or a Gt3 or Gt2 if you prefer. Now for the price the Porsche might always be more expensive but for me it's the better car overall.
Now comparing a Corvette Z06 with CGT is something that can't be done even if performance #'s are simular or get close.

The GT is an Exotic and for me it defines the Ultimate dream Machine and I think is worth every penny, it defines Beauty,Speed, Art, Exclusiveness and Balance. I could stare at the freaking car all day and not get tired of admiring every curve and line of it, try doing that with a Corvette. As for Driving Experiences, from the posts I have read confirm that The Gt is the Car to have.
Just my 2 cents.

BUMP

Word on the street* says Watt's Z06 is at the dealer awaiting shipment. I'm dying for a report, local dealers won't let me sample their "market adjusted" sucker bait.

Agreed. When Watt gives his driving impression, I will give all of the hoopla more credence. The guys on the Corvette forum are literally having orgasms. They haven't had much to brag about for a long time. For now, it's sounds like a very fast, good handling machine for the dough. Would I buy one? The jury is still out. I drove their 04 Z06. The car felt numb, heavy, bad brakes, horrible shifter, clutch, terrible interior, paint, fit, finish. I hope the new one isn't the same.

I gaurantee Watt will know soon. Either he is going to put 10K miles on it and sell it or it will be for sale with 500 miles on it in 3 weeks. Whats funny about this is a Z06 with 10K miles on it will be considered barely broken in and somebody will jump all over it. WHere as the typical ferrari afficianado would turn up his nose at a ferrari with 10K miles "you DROVE it??!!"
