First 450 miles in 40 hours.
I've spent about the last day and a half in the CGT, mostly in the canyons of Malibu. And I got to thinking that one of the reasons people may have such different reactions to the car is that you need the right roads to really appreciate it. No city traffic. Just highways, mountain roads, and lots of tunnels.
One's enjoyment of the car (or at least mine) grows exponentially with each mile. Don't get me wrong, I loved the car from mile one, but so much of what makes this car special involves feel, and that is really impossible to judge after a few rides or even a chance in the driver's seat.
You all know the performance is all-world, about all I can add to that is you really notice the advantage of a mid-engine car over a rear engine. Now I LOVE the 911. But all the adjustments in the world will never make it a mid-engine car. And that is completely obvious when you are in the twisties. The feel is amazing.
Another really nice thing about the car is it builds power all the way to red-line. Thus, if you know your engine and road well, you can really have a degree of fun I could never have in any turbo -- even those where the boost came on so smooth as to be almost impossible to feel.
Something I haven't read before is that you actually get TWO CARS when you buy a CGT. It is a different beast with the tops on -- in terms of in car experience. With the top off it feels a little less super car, because you don't hear every snap and pop. With the top on, it reminded A LOT more of the Enzo. I actually enjoyed the top on quite a bit.
For me this car is great. So much so that I'm selling the 430 spider -- which now feels like a very sexy toy. I know that sounds insane, I do. But it is true. I swear. In fact, I'm selling everything and just keeping the CGT and a daily driver.
And for those of you who don't like this car, I respect your opinion, but I think you are insane. (Said with a smile, not meant to be inflamatory) I honestly think you have lost your mind. See, I didn't want to like this car. I really didn't. But I do like it-- and it has honestly ruined most other cars for me. I know that sounds obnoxious, please don't take it as such. It is just my way of raving about the car that I wanted to hate. And I am sure I will not get bored of it either -- in fact I cannot imagine anyone in the DRIVER'S SEAT would ever get bored.
If it had a nose lift it would be perfect. But I guess nothing in life is. As for driving -- it absolutely shatters any other car I've owned of driven.

You've redlined it already?! I'm 300 miles away from trying that out, but I've stayed below 4200 RPMs religiously -- I felt I could make that sacrafice for the benefit of the rest of its life.

Have it on good authority...

...that ALL Porsches come fully "broken in". And I don't think I've actually redlined it. I've just taken a few excursions in that direction... And enjoyed more and more power all the way up.
There is one key thing to do for the first 1000 miles, and that is not to run it at a steady rpm for too long. So don't just cruise for 1000 miles at 60 in 6th. It is better to vary your rpm's -- a few minutes a 2k, a few a 2.5...etc.
If you aren't at least exploring 5-6k every once in a while I don't think you are breaking in the engine properly. Not to mention -- you are missing out on all the fun!

I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your CGT. I took mine to the track for the first time this past weekend. I was at Hallet Motor Racing Circuit which is a fairly technical 1.8 mile track. It was not the first time I had been there (previously I had been there with my GT3, M3 and Maserati Spyder).
The Carrera GT provided an unbelievable experience. In the first few laps while I was "learning" the handling characteristics of the car, I had bested my previous best lap by a full 2 seconds. By the end of the day, I was 4-5 seconds faster than when I had started.
If you get a chance, rent out a track and have some fun. I would caution you to start slowly and explore the car progressively, as you can get above your head quite easily in this car. I never got above 3rd gear on the track and still had a blast.

That was me. I try to represent the car by smiling and laughing at all times.
Oh -- here is something I've never gotten in ANY other car. The approval of the motorcycle guys. Both sport bike guys AND Harley guys ride alongside -- ask to see what it can do -- and when you show them -- they give you a thumbs up. I swear -- thumbs up from guys on r1s and Harleys. Unreal.
