Collapsible 3/4" Ratcheting Breaker Bar

I haven't seen this particular bar listed on here. It is sold by Matco, PN 14ADR40T. Closed it is 24". Open it is 40". The ratchet head is a nice feature. Price, $183.00 off the Matco truck.

the problem i see is the torque a 3/4 drive 40" long bar is exposed to would likely break the ratchet mechanism in short order

My 48" Precision Instrument torque wrench has a ratchet head on it and it has yet to fail. As long as the head is designed correctly there shouldn't be an issue.

farfel,

You can get one off any Matco truck. If you can't find I could most likely get the local Matco guy to ship you one. Price is $183. I've tried it on my car and it works fine. I can stand on the end of the bar and break the CL nuts free. I prefer that method to pulling on the wrench and breaking my pair.

Phil,

I'm not sure about the maximum torque. I'll ask. However, I weigh about 180 lb. and I can bounce on it to break free the CL nut. I'll get back to you.

I'll check and let you know. I'm checking today to see if the rep has another 3/4" bar on his truck.

Phil,

The Matco guy was at POV today and I checked on the wrench. He said it does handle the CL loads and he has sold a few to owners, me included. No one has had an issue. The wrench is guaranteed if it breaks you return it and they repair or give you a new one. The ratchet head, most likely piece to fail, has a lifetime warranty. All that said I picked up his last one today. He gave it to me for $180. Add whatever shipping is and it is yours. Let me know.
