Short-term GT3 ownership? Finance/lease?

Hello all, new member here.

I own a BMW M4 and it's time for me to mature into the Porsche world as I've finally learned to appreciate naturally aspirated P-cars after I fell in love with a Boxster S.

I treat cars as experiences that wear off after 6-12 months (then moving on to a different one) and so I'm looking for advice from those who know the market better.

I'd like to buy either a new or used low-mileage 991 GT3. No preference for equipment, color or options.

- What are my best options to get one fast but conveniently and easily get rid of it after 6-12 months with as little loss as possible?
- Do dealership offer short term leases on new/used GT3s?
- Should I finance, then sell to a private party or dealership?
- Is there demand?

(I could afford to buy it in cash, but it's not the best use of the money at hand given the way I treat it/I don't intend to hold on to it.)

Thank you for any tips.

I'm thinking this:

- Sale price $130,000
- MF 0.002
- Residual 65% (my ballpark guess, nobody can tell what the actual residual is)
- 24mo lease One-payment (circa $45,500).

I'd then sell the car after about 12 months to a private party, maybe $110,000.

Does this make sense?

The trick is finding one at that price that can be leased. You can't order one anymore, and most are in the $140-$160K range. If they build the RS in larger numbers, more should be available at dealers.

Hmm... So there are literally zero allocations for 991 GT3 in all US?

If so, can I lease pre-owned certified low mileage from a dealership?

Yes, ordering is done. Start your search as used ones and some new ones are available. Price and lease options will vary.

I see. Any idea when 991.2 will start to be delivered to customers? October 2015 timeframe? Just wondering if the 991.2 will significantly hurt my 991.1 resale price then.

My guess is it will be 2017, based on past history.

You mean GT3s are usually delayed after a facelift production starts? Or in general you think all 991.2s will start shipping so late?

Historically, there's been a gap between GT3 generations. So if history repeats, 2017,2018 would be the next GT3 production cycle. I'm guessing we may see one more round of NA cars......maybe.

If there were a 2016 model coming, we'd already here of it.

I think the bigger problem with your lease plan is that Porsche has a maximize residual MSRP, something ~$120k, so you're on the hook for the delta between that and the purchase price.

OP...I follow what you are trying to do but it's very difficult to get to a place where you won't take a massive hit on a car that is selling well above MSRP...even on lightly used samples.

Just like the market, there is no way to predict what the value of these cars will be in 6-12 months. You might look at the 997.2, but these are manual cars and very desirable for those seeking that transmission.

Dibs on buying it for $110k in May 2016!

I prefer white but the blue is really appealing to me. Well, red wouldn't be too bad either. Actually, any color is good.

Carbon fiber package is nice.
Let me know when you'd like to conference about building our options list, haha.

In seriousness, how do you like the M4?

Good luck finding one let alone one for 130k msrp---- never seen one that low ever amongst all the owners that post their info over at Rennlist. I have seen a few mid 130 cars though (135k - 139k ish). The MF is correct at .00200 if you can get a dealer to lease the car at buyrate. The last residuals I saw (q1) and they were supposed to remain flat for q2 had the 24 month 15k residual at 58. You can add 5% to that number for 5k miles per year.

Why would you want to rent/lease a car that is the equivalent of heroin?

Used ones are already out there from folks dumping 2014 models in order to get 2015 with sport bucket seats. Not many but they are out there.
