Thanks for the feedback. Can you please give me an overview on expected maintenance costs over the next 60k miles?

Are you kidding?

No one in the world could answer that question intelligently. You could call the dealership and ask what they would charge for every service. But the cost of out of warranty problems, tires, brakes, etc.. depends on so many additional variables that it is impossible to estimate.

I would say that most people who own a CGT put less than 5K miles a year on the car, so you are asking how much the car is going to cost you in 12 years of service?

Yes, just trying to guage cost of ownership outside of depreciation. What are the major service intervals and associated cost, expected clutch life and replacement cost etc. I think 5k miles per year is reasonable for these cars. I appreciate any insight.

As most owners here haven't had much experience with the kind of costs you are talking about I would think talking to a local dealer would be your best bet to get prices on the services.

I've had my car just a few months now, and I already have 2500 miles on it. For a $400k+ car, I'd think you'd want to get your money's worth!

You will need a value adjustment around 20,000 miles. I am not sure what is involved but I understand it is a very significant expense.

My question to you is if your worried about insurance and maintenance costs, are you sure you can afford this car?

I'm really trying to determine the real world expenses from existing owners perspective. It is always better to be informed. Being able to afford the car does not necessarily mean that one would want to or can justify. You know that balance varies with different people and circumstances. Speak for yourself.

I can tell you this much. Clutch replacement is 22k. And we have allready had "less experienced" drivers go through clutches in less than 1k.

Marc

The local Porsche dealer has had a customer go through a clutch in 30 miles. As expected, it was driver error, not a faulty clutch.

Personally, it seems to me that if these type of concerns are of significance to you, then the CGT is probably not worth getting for you as an individual. I am not trying to be disparaging, or to belittle your reasonable questions, but honestly the only time that buying a car that costs over $350,000 (no matter the car or manufacturer) is when passion overrides reason, and continues to override it. There is no point justifying the purchase of such a car based on maintenance costs. Neither is there a point in justifying NOT buying a car based on maintenance costs. Keep your GT3 and be happy.

Just my $.02

Not to mention the current depreciation. Thanks Dmin, you might be right, I may need more passion for this transaction. I better not drive one.

Today in the Wall Street Journal there are three for sale. I believe all new. One is for 413,000, another 399,000 and the third I do not believe had a price. I strongly suspect they all would negotiate the price downward.

NelsonF,

I'm sorry some of my fellow 6speeders are having trouble giving you a constructive response to your entirely reasonable question.

IMO, the best way to find out about the CGT maintenance costs is to interview the service manager at the dealer where you are planning to buy the car and at the dealer where you are planning to have the car serviced. This way they are on the hook for being somewhat honest. And personally I would never buy a $400k car without having complete confidence that I could get it serviced by a skilled and trustworthy mechanic with the appropriate training and experience.

That being said, my understanding is as follows. The CFG needs routine service every 15k miles or 1 year. At every service they need to adjust the valves, a painstaking procedure which requires them to remove the engine entirely. The cost for the valve adjustment is circa $1500 almost entirely for labor. The total cost for the service is circa $2200. At major service intervals the cost will likely be higher.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback Hatchback. I definitely plan to gain more info from the dealer service dept. but was trying to gain some owner insider insight as well. I'd likely find it difficult to provide any potentially negative feedback to my questions after justifing such a large expense too.

1. i think the price will drop significantly over the next year

2. my insurance was outrageous

3. I like the cgt but it's not a car you ( I ) can drive around everywhere, not that I would but I dont want to drop 350K on something I cant take wherever the heck i want to take it

4. they made too damn many of them IMO

5. I love my Gt2, they made less gt2's than they made cgt's and for the $$ the gt2's are selling for it cant be beat. With minor $$ you can get the thing to scream...way beyond my driving capability....
6. At first i really liked the look/feel of it, kinda worn off now after a while and Im glad I didnt have to drop 100k in transactions/depreciation cost to learn that....

I have a pending deal on a very low milage used CGT for $315K. God willing, I will post pics very soon.

most importandly and the deciding factor #7

7. my wife said she sould leave me ..hehehehehehe

good luck buddy.
