So whats the new 997 GT3 going to have to offer?

Alright, with the new world of sports cars coming out this year and next, what will the 997 gt3 offer? My biggest thing is will it be on par with the c6 z06? I called some dealer's and they say they are sold out of z06's for this year and next, so the waiting list is long, and as people back out on deals your name goes up on the waiting list, I am not sure if I like the new z06 though, it is all out performance but thats about it, the interior still seems to cheap to me, not like the european car's, and the reviews say it is really fast, but a scary fast, would that be as in how much control you have over the car at speed or just an expression to tell you how fast it is?

I guess what I am trying to get at is the 996 gt3 was able to take on cars like the viper gts and c5 z06 and most others in its class, is the 997 gt3 worth waiting for, will it be close to perform like the c6 z06? Of course the z06 wont have the feel of the porsche, or the same driving experience but I am just hoping for excellent performance. The one thing about the c6 z06 is it will soon be seen around every corner in southern california, but thats not as big of a deal with such a pretty car, but it still dosent give you the same feeling as seeing a gt3 rarely. Has porsche made an promises on the performance of the 997 gt3? Thanks.

Glad to see you finally got approved to post Nick

Was the 996 GT3 faster then the C5 Z06 in a straightline? I don't think it was but still on all tracks the GT3 outperformed the Z06...

I'm pretty sure in a straight line the C6 Z06 would be faster then the 997 GT3 (not too much faster) but lon tracks the GT3 would eat it.

When I refer to performance I will usually never mean in a straight line, its about all around balance of a car and lap times!

If the rumors are true, it'll probably have around HP410 and PSM, that's less intrusive and can be turned off. It'll be based on the same engine as the current GT3 but with a displacment bump to 3.8 liters. No idea about weight increases but there might be some, at least due to airbags in the sport seats. Other than these rumors, there's no definitive information. Porsche is seriously tight lipped when it comes to the new 997 GT3.

Finally, my prayers have been answered. Well, that and the threatening letters.

A GT3 w/ PSM for Nancy boys like me. I'm falling in love again...

I do not think that the saying that the GT3 out performs that Z06 on all tracks. They are pretty equal. The first 996 GT3 tied the first C5 Z06 (with 385hp_ at Hockenhiem, both tests were done by sport auto, same driver, and I believe the same driver. Both were improved with both getting new suspension tunning and more power.

The C6 Z06 is a huge step over the C5 Z06. Much more track focused with much bigger and better tires, bigger better brakes, slight wieght loss, better wieght distribution, lower center of gravity, better suspension, and of course more torque and 100 extra horses.

Do you think that the GT3 will be as much as an improvement over the 996 GT3 Mk2, or will it be closer to the performance leap of 996 CarreaS to the 997 CarreraS?

If the vette driver switched the standard run-flats on the C6 Z06 to the more track focused rubber that available on the GT3. The more track focused rubber would add more feel, on the limit control, and control over rough surfaces that the stiff sidewall run-flats do not deliver, not to mention the increased grip.

So to sum it up, the Z06 and GT3 will be equal to the GT3, but I would bet a large sum of money that a Z06 on similar tires to a GT3 would come out on top.
