I had my M3 serviced yesterday and went over and looked at the Cayman and a few 997's. Brand new they look fantastic. I will say the quality of the leather is very good and the fit and finish are excellent. Again they did have a used S and the seat looked worn but I guess if that is the achilles heel (and the soft touch paint) overall I would change my opinion to say the Porsche is of higher quality in the 997 than the Vette. I bvase my opinion of the 996 on largely on the fact that almost everyone I have seen has had at least 4-5K miles on them and personally didn't think they were wearing very well.
And for the record, someone was buying a black GT3 and that car looks fabulous now and more importantly will look hot for years and years to come, an instant classic IMO.

I did see the ZO6 at the autoshow last week though and I'd really like to try one of those. Maybe next year. Definetly passing on the 997S though. I got to drive it a couple of times and honestly just wasn't blown away, at least not 90K blown away.

When I was looking for a Sports Car the GT3 was the one of me. I do not spend much time looking at the interior and I do not need a GPS.
If I need that stuff I will take on of my pigs (Range Rover, 540)

constitution of sports car owners------>
1) Thou shall not add unneeded weight to my car
2) Thou shall not order navigation, power seats and things which increase weight etc etc

I dont undertstand people who constantly want to do motor/performance work on there cars and load it with power seats, sunroofs and aftermarket stereo equipment...SPRUNG WEIGHT--HIGH ON THE CENTER OF GRAVITY IS THE ENEMY OF HANDLING/SPEED...this can not be compensated...

I have an M3...I dont want a track car I also dont want a car loaded with **** I dont use and surley dont need to compensate alot of extra weight that my car does not have I built the car to run and handle best right from the factory just like a GT3 out of the box is "ready" for the track thats the way my car is as well. This is what I wanted thats why I went for no sunroof and the CSL style rim with the comp pkg as it is the lightest stock rim...navigation in a sports car WTF if you want looks and nice and shiny interior buy a 4 door sedan...

agreed.. this thread starte as a track event with a Z06 and morphed into where we are. I expect the zo6 to give a GT3 competition on the track. Stock BMW anything has no chance. It is not made for the track.
A GT3 can not compete with BMW 3 or 5 or 7s when taking people on DOT roads anywhere in comfort.

it was fast enough. Needs exhaust, pads, something more for better traction in the rear. I guess if it is out there with a bunch of C5 and such but when the GT2 3s and 360s are there at the same time.. well you know. V8s do sound cool.

also, this car is so new the owner is being an adult about it and learning the car. I ecpect next season he will be going much faster. I know that when I first got my GT3 my times were slower then with my C2. That is no long the case.
