The Cirrus is great, but the Columbia is a much more robust airplane. The Columbia 350 is more comparable in performance and prices to the SR22. I'm on the fence whether I should save the money and go for the 350, but at altitude turbochargers are nice to have. Also an area I don't want to be too cheap.
The parachute on the Cirrus is something that's better to have than not have, but it's more for the comfort of passengers (i.e. the wives). It allowed them to avoid some spin testing, etc. with the FAA; if the plane enters a spin or other uncontrolled flight, the only approved procedure is "pull the chute", but for it to be effective you have to be within certain operating ranges, which, IMO, if you need to deploy the parachute, you probably won't be.

To me, the Cirrus is the better airplane. Over 2000 sold vs 250?ish in the same time frame. The Columbia is kit like while the Cirrus was designed for comfort. Its got better headroom. Cirrus have better Service Center Support. There have been successful parachute deployments wherein the occupants lived. Cirrus Design is a much stabler company financially than Columbia. I have followed both companies for years. Columbia shut down production due to lack of funds not too long ago. Cirrus have proven TKS anti ice system while Columbia still dont. And my favorite, Cirrus aircraft seats are adjustable just like any airplane or car, whereas, in a Columbia you would need to pay the factory $3000 so u can adjust the seats without a wrench. Lastly, the properly working pitot static system is also an option.
Sorry for being OT

Alex Papas just posted a pic of his 2 super americas over at F chat. I believe there's an F40 in the mix too. If the rest of his cars are this nice then he difinitely has at least the nicest F car collection at 6 speed. Hmmm wonder if Armen posts here????
Mr Papas I hope you dont mind me posting your pic here.

Matt Nunez has an 06 NSX listed among his toys. That has to be the new NSX right? I didnt even know that it was released. Never really been a fan of Japanese sports cars but the front looks good in a baby enzoish kind of way.
-Peter
OOOOPS, seems I was wrong. The NSX is still in production. The new one is not out yet. Wow honda really milked the NSX for what it was worth. Production started in 91. Even outlasted the previous SL500 by at least 6 years.
