video: Manthey tuned 911 GT3
#3
Haven't personally bought anything from Manthey but the place is familiar. Next time I'll probably dyno the car there in their MAHA-dyno so I can see how many "real" ponies I have
Manthey is a good company, they've got some nice tuning packages for GT3 (440hp is available) and they tell the specs of their aerodynamic parts (how much downforce etc.)
This forum seems to be all about more power so maybe one of their most impressive cars is their 996 GT2. It's a GT2 with 685hp and weights the same as the stock car. Of couse the engine costed quite much. A magazine tested it in Germany and it did 0-200km/h (about 0-125mph) in 9.3 seconds. That's much faster than Carrera GT or SLR...But does anybody care because everybody seem to have all these "GT700" kits etc. in their turbos, but can they be faster than that?

Manthey are incredibly well respected in Germany.
Three things about them really make them stand out in my head:
1) Track record winning races
IIRC, the Manthey Porsches came in 2nd in the '04 Nurburgring 24hrs race, beaten only by the Schnitzer BMW's. The Schnitzer team was a full works team, with a budget several times bigger than the private Manthey effort. Despite being a privateer team, Manthey beat the full works teams fielded by Opel and at least one other manufacturer I can't remember right now.
In last year's race, the Manthey Porsche was leading the race outright, ahead of even the mighty BMW's. Unfortunately, a miss-shift by one of the drivers blew the gearbox, forcing retirement.
Olaf Manthey himself was a decorated DTM driver of note back in the 80's, winning races in-- ironically-- a works BMW M3.
2) Walter Rohrl's comments about them
Over dinner last year (press event,) I asked Walter what he thought about Porsche tuners. He basically told me that in his eyes, there are only two tuners that know how to make a Porsche OVERALL even better than it is from the factory: Ruf and Manthey.
Now obviously he wouldn't have had much experience with many of the big US tuners, but he was very quick to mention Ruf and Manthey only (among those tuners he knew of,) and that itself is a hell of an endorsement!
3) Porsche recently establishing much closer ties with them
Porsche announced just last month that they are forging a closer relationship with Manthey's racing team. I can't remember the details (got it in a press bulletin emailed from Porsche,) but the gist was that Manthey are being asked to run at least part of Porsche's racing programme.
Anyone that visits the 'Ring HAS to drop by Manthey's outfit, as it is literally a few minutes away. Apart from seeing all the wonderfully prepared customer cars (generally all specced out for 'Ring raids I think,) they also have those gorgeous forged magnesium BBS wheels, advertised as the lightest 18" rims in the world. And they all have "Forged BBS for Manthey Racing" proudly stamped on each wheel.
How cool is that?!?!

IMHO, I think one would be hard pressed to find an American tuner who could build a modified Porsche better than Manthey. Their approach to tuning is complete and balanced, and has the racing pedigree to prove it.
