well, enough of this thread...I'll take the opinion of the fella that owns both, drives both, and is secure enough to state an honest assessment over a magazine racer anyday...

Josh are you aware Porsche has not be in racing for years? Recently, they decided to put their toe in the water and opted for the lowest class/category in racing.

RufMD, Porsche suffers from being a mainstream car company and to date have been successful. That is why your CGT will not enjoy a resurgence in price. They no longer are considered as building exotic cars. Porsche is the German equivalent of GM but for sport cars. I suspect it will continue to depreciate in value as the warranty runs its course. If you believe your car will go up in price your smoking something.

As far as the total package is concerned, the CGT has a pedestrian sound unless under full acceleration. Even then it is not that noticeable while in the car. Additionally ,the CGT interior is small and tight and other than passengers, nothing fits in it. As one owner commented "my wife did not have room to take her little dog for a ride." Also there is no luggage space.

The CGT is not easy to drive and has been involved in several single car accidents. You need constant vigilence in order not to kill yourself. The car is too powerful without adequate safety devices. Its ride is jarring and very uncomfortable. I found no fun in driving the car. One lapse of judgment and you end up in the weeds or worse hospital.

There is a reason why the CGT is in the dumps when it comes to value. People recognize the car for what it is; a street legal race car primarily for very accomplished drivers mainly professionals. Most moneyed people understand this and consider the car radioactive.

Finally I have driven the CS often and I prefer my 430. Your F40 is a quite a car but only for the best of drivers. BTW, are you aware that a British magazine raced the F40 against the 430 around a track? Guess who won.

No, you are absolutely right, the CGT would not smoke an F430 in the quarter mile; It would DESTROY it!

One second quicker in the quarter mile is an eternity. The CGT would be at least 10 cars ahead during that short distance. At higher speeds, it will start pulling numerous bus lengths on the 430.

Im already half way through my 2nd bag of popocorn, keep it coming!

Nomatter what driver you put in the 430, the CGT will always pull away. The 430 wasnt TOO far behind, I thought it actually did well considering its weight and power defecit....and possibly driver defecit.

Nostradomis, I mean Nick might be right about ressale value but I think if you own a CGT you dont give a ****. Maybe Ferrari owners care more about resale than driving

That said I wouldnt mind owning a 430 with flappy paddles although I would prefer a GT2 with manual trans.

*warming up 3rd bag of popcorn*

Porsche is anything but mainstream. Their cars are still exotics but have adapted to fit more customer need (i.e. Cayenne, and future Panamera). Look at Ferrari, the have the maserati quatroporte, which isnt a very attractive car IMO and quite frankly is mundane and nothing special. A CGT is the best sounding car I have ever heard, and Im sure other feel this way a well. Not only does it sound amazing at ANY RPM it sound good even when the car is off. Dont get me wrong I love F cars, but it must really bother you that we can take our Porsche and most of the people on this forum would esily pull away from you beloved 430 and leave u in the dust, and we can drive our Porsches every day of the week and not have serious issues with our cars. At the end of the day, when it comes down to exotics Porsche is and wil always be one. They are something special to own and drive and if you do not know this you obviously havnt experienced one. If anyone is the GM of German cars it is Mercedes, their cars just suck. Other than that Germans still build the best cars and always will. Anyway, at the end of the day Porsche still makes the most coherent and capable exotic!
