F40 vs CGT performance comparison

With regards to the F40/CGT performance comparison, I can only add this anecdotal experience. The other day, I was in the CGT and a very good, capable friend was driving my F40...we were side by side on a very deserted, wide open stretch of road. We did a couple of wide open runs from 2nd gear rolling starts...I was amazed at the shattering level of performance of the F40. Once it nudged ahead, the second time dead even, and the third time, slightly behind initially, then caught up. Our runs did not go through all the gears and were short 2-3 gear change bursts...but it was amazing to behold.

The F40 performance was shatteringly fast (and sounded incredible)...I am sure that over a longer distance the CGT might outrun it, but I am amazed how 1992 technology and low weight = 2005 matching performance. Once boost kicked in, the "horses" were unleashed.

This is no criticism of the CGT...its plenty, plenty fast...and relentless. But there is no performance difference between it and the F40 that I could feel.

This is not a scientific comparison, but just a feel for what happened on the street.

i had posted this comparison on f-chat and just added your post.
i hope you don't mind!

that is a straight line performance test but, seat of the pants, how do you feel they would match up on a road course?

Great Post!! You are very fortunate to be one of a very few people in the world to have an opportunity to have a "real world" heads up comparison of these two Supercars.

not too surprising. Even way up top it would be close. The F40 tops at what like 199-201 range and the GT is in the 208-210 range. I'm guessing through 185 they should be very close....

If forza is correct then it's 190. But if I start magazine(topgear) racing, when Clarkson took out the CGT he said it just keeps pulling and that on most supercars theres a point where the car slows down. Make me believe that after 150 or so CGT should continue to push. Remember this speculation and rambling.

Its a shame there arent more lightweight all around performance cars I didnt realize that it was that much different between the two, that F40 is LIGHT.

The CGT is still the shiznit though

----eidt

how do the controls feel between the two?

amazing what a 2.9L can do against a 5.7L

i wouldn't mind having a F40, starting off with a twin turbo set-up in such a light car means you can go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee quite easily

Some performance facts:
0-200km/h (0-125 mph) for F40 is about 11 seconds.
The same for CGT is about 10 seconds (Porsche itself claims 9.9.)

Awesome cars and both are FAST...congrats RufMD.
