Anyone driven the Ruf RT12?

Considering the new GT3 and was wondering if the RT12 from Ruf might be a good alternative in case GT3 is a little too stiff for around town driving. Anyone have any experience with one of these? I should qualify this by saying the supercharged version.

I think we need some clarification:

1. Supercharged version of the GT3?
2. You are considering the RUF RT12 in lieu of the GT3? The RT12 is a $350K vehicle...just want to clarify.

I was looking at the 997 to RT12 conversion body pieces with the supercharger offered by Ruf U.S.A.

The RT12 is the twin turbo monster so I guess you mean the R Kompressor?
I think Erik drove that not to long ago. Do a search for it.

strictly speaking, the "RT12" designation applies only to the 3.8 liter 650HP model.

there IS of course a 997-based Ruf Kompressor with a body kit that makes it look almost identical to the RT12 (main difference being that the RT12's rear fenders are about 2 inches wider than a standard 997 C4S).

there have been some test drives of both cars-- RT12 and Ruf Kompressor-- in magazines lately. RT12 was in the may issue of European Car and also I think of Sports Car International. Ruf Kompressor got a nice article in GT Purely Porsche recently.

good luck!

I have driven a 997 converted to the "R" Kompressor with all the mods you speak of. I would say it is easily as fast as my old 996 Turbo. It's a great car.

Just a slight correction.........

The RT12 designation applies also to the 530bhp and 560bhp versions of the same car (all twin-turbo). The RT12 is therefore one model with three engine options (with the 530bhp one as standard).

Some R-Kompressors are visually identical (most aren't) and can even include the rear intercooler scoops, which a friend of mine had built into his so in future he can easily upgrade to a turbo-engine.

The RUF R Kompressor has been tested 0-200 km/h in 13.5 secs.
In a test I think it was about 2 secs faster than the 996TT on track as well.

(I have driven the RT12 as well. And the R Kompressor)
