So is the 996 GT3 apparently, since depending on the car configuration they weight almost the same.

The 997 Gt3 weighs 150 lbs pounds more than the 996 Gt3, 3049 versus 3190. That's without PCCB's, with PCCB's the 996 Gt3 weighs just over 3000 lbs.

I've seen 996s listed at 3100+ curb weight and 3300+ test weight in various mainstream magazines. Here is one example - http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...2003163720.pdf I'd be more inclined to believe an independent weigh-in over a manufacturer statistic.
Fact is, depending on how you configure the car, the weight difference between the two cars is minimal at best, and to classify the 997 as a pig due to its weight; that statement would need to be inclusive of the 996 as well.

Well here is another result from Motortrend at 3043 and that's without PCCB's. Take off another 45lbs or so with PCCB's. I tend to believe it weighs around 3050 to 3175lbs. 3100+ is the weight for a Gt2. 3300 plus is getting close to 996tt numbers and the R&T article cites PCCB's. I have trouble believing that. Believe me, I agree the new 997 is not a pig, just slightly heavier, but I think it makes up for it with an additional 35 horses.

997Vancity is infamous around these parts
I know the Vantage is 1570 Kg and has 380 HP at the same price and its looks much nicer and is more special.

Only thing that I'm worried about is quality control.

The 3043 lbs is the official weight for the Euro version with GT3 seats, no A/C and half a gas tank of fuel. The U.S car came with different body reinforcements that increase another 40 lbs (D.O.T requirements).

In U.S a 996 GT3 with PCCB on a 1/8th of a gas tank weighs 3090 lbs, and the same car with steel brakes 3133 lbs. This is stock. Add a full gas tank and it could be on the 3240 lbs. With a full tank the non-PCCB 997 GT3 should be on the 3,300 lbs range for the U.S market.

The fuel load alone can deviate results by 120 lbs. In a few months people will start posting corner weights from the 997 GT3, and we shall see.
