Thanks! Haven't seen the video yet either. Give the Carrera GT some slicks, set up the suspension and gearing spesifically for that track. And im quite sure the Carrera GT will be equal to the RSR's lap times.

And I quote:
"As it was, the RSR was quicker, with Long logging a fastest lap some 9 seconds per lap faster than he did in the Carrera GT. Where did all that time come from? Race car vs. street car, that's where. As amazing as the GT is, and it's certainly as fast as street-legal cars come, it's simply not going to outperform one of the world's fastest Porsche race cars."
It is impressive that the Carrera GT did get as close as it did for being a road legal supercar vs. a full blown race car with no creature comforts.
"As Patrick astutely pointed out, "Remember, this RSR is built for the track. It has won every major endurance race and the ALMS championship. It's been dialed in for two years. The Carrera GT is the way it comes off the showroom floor, set up for a wide variety of drivers and driving conditions. It's impressive that we've gotten that close with the GT."
Maybe if the Carrera GT was tweaked a bit (tires/suspension/weight reduction etc.) it might've had equal/greater performance.
Still the Carrera GT is impressive beyond words.

Even Patrick said at the end of the video that slicks would give the GT 2 seconds.. it was still 9 seconds off the RSR so I don't see it beating the RSR, but damn it is impressive it gets that close...
But nowhere did the pro driver say it would BEAT the RSR , but damn I want something that would be that close and have a reliable motor! The RSR motor requires it to be rebuilt every 50 hours or so and it's about $75,000 from what I was told....
I wish my car was more like the RSR other than the body modifications LOL

nice video and very impressive ..even though the cgt was designed also for street driving. ...i've driven with race-only parts(urethane bushings, swaybars, etc) on my street/semi-track car and ended up switching them back to the oem counterpart because of noise, drivability, etc.

Even a well set up 996 Cup car on slicks is faster than a Carrera GT. I personally witnessed this on the track when Petersen brought his CGT to flog. The White Lightning Racing crew was there and so were a couple of top drivers such as Craig Stanton and David Murry. The CGT is very fast, no doubt, but Cup car on slicks is still faster, and the RSR is in another league.
