997 GT3 - Walter Rohrl around Nürburgring in 7.42
#16
The 996 GT3 ran a 7:49 stock, tested by Manthey Racing.
On a local 60 secs track (Pocono North), the MPSC are 1.5-2 secs faster per lap compared to street tires.
On an almost 8 minutes track, tires will make a huge difference. At Watkins Glen, a 2:30 minutes track, you can see a 5 secs difference between street tires and r-comps. On three laps (7:30), it could be a 15 secs difference.
The real test will be in US, because PCNA is not going to sell the car from the showroom with MPSC, that's too much of a liability.
If Porsche goes for an official 997 GT3 published Ring time on MPSC, they will need to do a hell of a job on the 997 GT3RS to be substantially faster than the 997GT3. I still smell a 3.8 on the RS.
