Question for CGT owners ...

... what kind of challenges does this car pose just driving around town. I know it is very low and extreme care must be taken. This does bother me because there are so many for sale and it seems like maybe this may be one of the reasons.

MANA,
the car is very low & the sound of scraping the front is horrible... i have a customer driving his GT visit us on weekly bases. he doesn't care scraping the front even though he can get a clean shot getting out of our parking lot. however, i can tell u the car is very well designed unlike most other exotics such as Ferrari & Lambo where u scrape the paint (yeah some got the lift system. oh well). the scraping area in the CGT is all covered by the lower plastic lip. it is not visible like the GT3/2 or Turbo but the lip is actually very hard & strong. his car has about 9,200 miles on it he scrapes almost everytime getting out not to mention at other places. yesterday i saw the car the lip is still in great shape. unless u hit something head on i don't think u can cause any paint damage. besides the front u need to watch out the speed bumps. most likely the car will not clear any speed bumps so don't even bother to give it a try. hurting the carbon under panel is painful so avoid speed bumps at all cost. when i see any sign of ^ on the road i find ways to go around it.

it is a car u need to pay extra care when driving. plan the route if needed. i basically don't take it to places i haven't been to before. hassle, some might say but at least i enjoy it. i'm sure u have enough experience with Viper, TT, Gallardo & other lowered cars. if u see a speed bumps or parking curb ahead then u dive right in guess can't blame the car, can u?

a reason that u see many for sale? i say it's a lame excuse. actually good those cars are for sale otherwise they might get killed in the wrong hands.

JUST BUY IT!

btw, buy an extra lip keep it it the garage if that helps.

I concur with Arling. Just buy it! The car is a wonder to drive, especially when you're exiting an off-ramp with a curve and execute the perfect 4-3-2 downshift. Yummy!!! The only hassle is like Arling pointed out, you have to watch where you take the car. We won't take ours to places we haven't been. I've even scoped out a location one night before hand to make sure there was parallel parking so I could avoid the steep driveway. Extreme?...perhaps, but in the end, the joy of driving the car conquers all.

If you got the money, this should be the easiest decision of your life. driving around town is like being in a parade, except that your the only float.

porsche does offer a 10mm lift kit for the cgt at about 12.7k dealer installed.
and ruf germany was to install the adjustable (up to 70mm) ohlins kit on a cgt
this month using the front end portion only.
have not heard final cost yet, but most likely around 10k.
both seinfeld and leno have the porsche kit installed in their cgt's!

i'd love to hear arlings thoughts on these two kits?

my thoughts? why waste money on the factory lift kit. if u can't drive it the 10mm will not help anyways, not to mention the car will look weird. Ruf kit i have no comment since i haven't seen it in person. i don't like the idea hacking into the factory suspension though. bottom line, learn it & get used to it. can't speak for others but it's part of the driving experience that u need to deal with it. joe knows how bad my driveways are both home & shop. yet my lip is still a virgin.

from backing in at an angle?
i don't think you would notice that much difference in appearence at 10mm, but like you said it's not that much higher either.

Jeff if you hear about the Ohlins on the CGT please let me know. I think that would be a great option on my CGT, probably the only one I would ever consider.

To the initial poster, the ride height isn't too much of a problem, but in certain places it would be nice to be able to lift up the front a couple of inches like an Enzo.

As others have said, just buy the car you won't regret it! This is the greatest car I have ever driven.
