There's got to be aero issues in there, as well as tire choice, too. Still, to be within 10 seconds (out of 460) of the Carrera GT, with a 200 HP disadvantage, that's damn impressive.

What I find remarkable is that the CGT did a 7.36 lap in 2002 and 2 years later it does a 7.28, that's a 8 seconds difference and that is a lot. Anybody got an explanation for that? Non-streettires?

The 997 Gt3 comes standard with either the Pilot Sport Cups or the Corsa system tires. Both are specific compound tires and not the same as the race tires that are available so these are streetable versions. The GT3 suspension was tuned to take advantage of these tires and, right here, is the result.

Pardon the brain fart.
Different drivers but probably the same tires. Surprised that Horst's time is better tan Walther's. Maybe the weather conditions were a factor or there was some traffic in the ring.

It was my understanding that the track was slightly damp the first time around for Rohrl, and that the 7:28 thats being listed as the first, wasn't an official time either.
I could be wrong on that though.
