Do you prefer it because of potential damange or because of performance? I'd driven a GT2, GT3 and GT on the track. Granted they are all awesome, but it is hard to beat a GT for overall package (i.e. sound, performance, etc.).

Seems like a waste to me. If I had a Carrera GT, the only other car I would want for the track would be a dedicated race car so I can do some racing. If the funding was there, perhaps a GT3 cup car.

How does one go about getting a cup car? Through a normal dealer?

Probably is that I can take the GT3RS to 99% of the limit and drive the car alot harder, of course less presure driving it as if anything happen to the car can be easily replaced. I find the GT is quite a bit more demanding(it is quite a bit faster) and with the extra precaution when driving with it, I cant drive it competively especially on track.

I actually like the attention I get on the street with the GT then showing off amature driving skill in front of alot of expert drivers in a supercar.

I don't know about a waste, but like you said if this was going to be a dedicated track car, then yeah the Cup car is the way to go. But you can't drive the Cup car to the track.

You should probably contact Porsche Motorsport directly. Here's a great page on the website, worth looking at. 997 GT3 Cup Car, has a sequential transmission...Ooohh can you say Porsche ****?

Beeing a fan of Porsches I really would have a RS!
The style, the power and the track abilities...things the CGT has yet but maybe less focused...let us know your decision!

IMO this is the only right choice if you can affoerd one and i guess you can.The cup car 996 or 997 will drive circles around a CGT on track with the right driver in it.

If you want to track the car alot i would def. prefer the Cup car over the RS.The RS is a heavy pig compared to the Cup.One big plus for the 997 cup is the seq. gearbox. On the other hand the cups car maintenace cost are really high after 3000 km you need acomplete gearbox and engine revision.Contact your local Porsche dealer to get some information about the cup car.

Or ask ShankLMR i think he also owns or knows somebody who owns one.

cheers

CGT - RS - Cup

Paul,

If I can get you back up to Spring Mountain (and when it cools down), you can try out my 996 RS clone "aka Cup Car Jr." and when ready, my 996 GT-3 Cup Car with RSR engine. I think you will find that while the CGT is a great sensory experience on the track, it is hard to beat dedicated track cars. If you really want a challenge, drive the GT-2! I am probably going to pass on the GT-3 RS and find a 997 Cup.

Best
