Need Baby Seat for 2004 GT3 - 3 year old 35lbs.
Any suggestions for "the best" baby seat for a 2004 GT3? Went to the local porsche dealer and they were stumped.
Are porsche child seats the only option?
Can the deactivation kit work for the Gt3?
What is the deactivation kit?
My son is 3 years old and weighs 35lbs.
Any insight is appreciated....

M3 blasphamy, I've already done the M5 thing. But my son is obsessed with the car and must ride, only for fun. We've already got the "BMW Sport Wagon" for the day to day hauling.
There's must safe way to allow him to ride in the car (besides on my lap steering the car).

On 996 models, only the Porsche zoom seat has the required (and very cool) red belt clip which clips into the deactivation bar red belt under the seat. You can use any seat in the 997 and deactivate the airbag with the key (needs to be installed) or trust Porsche's weight sensitive front seat which deactivates the airbag automatically around 80-85 lbs or less. You could just get a clip for the 996 airbag deactivation bar and use your own seat, but the Porsche seat fits SO perfectly in either the stock seats or even the GT3 seats!

What is the deactivation bar? How does it install? Do you have a links or additional information?
Thanks Again for your help...my son really appreciates it He really wants to go for a ride in "Big Jet" (that's what he calls it, from the Little Einsteins TV show).

I'm assuming you are talking about using a car seat in the front passenger seat. The deactivation kit on a 996 consists of a bar installed beneath the right front seat. It is meant to be used with a Porsche car seat that has a seat belt buckle that clips into a receiver buckle on the the bar. Of course the receiver buckle has a sensor that tells the car that a Porsche car seat is connected and that's how the airbag is shut off.
All Porsche and Mercedes seats are made by Britax. They just have Porsche and Mercedes specific fabric and either the Porsche lettering or the Mercedes logo on the side plastic part. They make 3 seats. One is an infant seat that faces rearward, a medium toddler child's seat that looks like a badass deeply bolstered Recaro seat with a fat lap attachment and a larger child's booster seat.
I have the Mercedes Toddler (medium) seat and I can say that it is a really nice seat that is really easy to use. I also have the Porsche child booster seat (large) which is really nice as well. Either way, you will need the deactivation harness to use them in the front seat.
BTW - None of the 996s use a weight sensor. They all require the deactivation harness. The 2005 997 needed a special deactivation device installed by the dealer as well. Only the 2006 and up 997s have the weight sensing deactivation device in the seat. That's why they actually use a slightly different center tunnel console with a built a airbag light cutout.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me, I will be glad to answer any specific questions about either seat.

Anyone had success getting the deactivation bar installed in a GT3 with the Euro GT3 seats? When I asked the dealer service advisor he knew nothing.
I would love to be able to take my son out for short weekend drives once in a while. He wants to have a ride in it and who can blame him?

They also mentioned that it would absolutely not work with the Euro seats.

Smells like BS to me. The deactivation bar is a very simple thing. If I remember correctly, all they did was remove the front 2 seat bolts, added the deactivation bar and then reinstalled the bolts.
As far as electronics, all I saw was a seatbelt buckle with a red strap. I couldn't imagine it being anything more than a circuit that indicates closed or open. The seat doesn't sense weight or anything. The deactivation harness simply tells the car that a Porsche childseat is sitting on the front seat. I could be wrong but I would check with multiple dealerships to see what they say.

If you get the deactivation kit (i beleive gert @ carnewal has them) it is a simple thing to install. I did it myself on my c4s and then again on my gt3. all it will require is a trip to the the dealer for a computer reset. It doesn't matter if you have the stock or euro seats as the wiring harness is not part of the seat but will be found under the seat on the floorboard and is a simple plug in connection. best of luck and enjoy the rides w/ your son. my kids absolutely love riding in the vroom vroom car.
