Is the 997 GT3 $50k better than a 996 GT3?

With 996 GT3 prices slumping as the 997 model gets closer and closer, it looks like close to a $50k premium to get a new 997 vs a 996.

997 GT3 with a few options, after taxes, etc should come close to $115k, right? And that assumes no PCCB.

I am thinking 996 GT3 prices will head into the low mid $70's before too long. They are already dipping into the upper $70's now. So say $75k after taxes.

Okay, that is closer to a $40k difference, but if you add PCCB to your 997, you are back to a $50k spread.

Wow. That is a heck of a premium. You do get a new car with a new warranty and better abilities. But is that worth +$50k?

Opinions?

I really want a new one but for me personally and money being a consideration I think I would be more than happy to drive a 996 for a few years and then move up to the 997. IMO its a pretty solid 40K jump to get the new car. I won't say its not worth it but right now its more than I want to spend on a car.

I agree and don't forget the 997GT3 will be taking a depreciation hit as soon as it leaves the showroom. The 996 GT3 has sustain its depreciation at least for now.

All GT3 allocation for 1st year are spoke for, so I've heard. If so, I doubt prices will drop on 996 GT3 that much.

Can you get suede/alcantera dash on 997 GT3? I like the 360 CS look. A white with red stripes would be superb!

There don't seem to be a lot of 05 GT3s for sale around, at least on ebay, for example. 90% of them seem to be 04's. Did they sell a lot less 05s than 04s? Or are less 05 owners putting them up for sale yet? I guess those people have had them one year less.

All GT3 allocation for 1st year are spoke for, so I've heard.
There are a few slots left around.

Good thread and a question I ask myself too...When I consider my 02 TT is for all intents and purposes better than new...with 11K miles...I am feeling like getting more fun out of it first...

The question is largely due to miles driven (and seats unfortunately),,,Just love those new seats!

997 gt3 107 out the door
800 mile 04 gt3 about 85
diff = $22K apples to apples

The new 3 is massively better and has close ratio gears, the main omission on the 996. For me, it's definitely worth it. better looking too.

OTH, a F430 is 190 vs a 360 for 150 and much uglier, altho' it performs better.

A well equipped 3 will be over 120k with taxes. Its all relative I think the new 997 GT3 is far more of an improvment that the 996 TT to the 997 TT IMO.
