Depends on how much money you want to spend.
If you can buy a GT3, there is no question. I would even consider a used 996 GT3, two of the best cars Porsche has ever built.

It is apples and oranges....but in fairness, the Z06 is an absolutely outstanding engineering accomplishment....you simple can't match the performance bang for the buck. Unfortunately, many Z06 owners are behaviorally/culturally challenged.

That is why the GT2 w/ its easily upgraded performance capabilities is my choice because it can shut the Z06 down in almost any category. You can't say that about the GT3, although it is a great car.

The Z can probably turn faster laps, but it will fall apart very quickly. CHeck out the Z06 Forum. Those guys are complaining about everything from roofs that fly off, interior carpeting that is burning and shrinking due to transmission heat tunnel transfer. Some say they can't even stand the heat in the car due to the heat transfer. Everything is going wrong with that car, differentials, blown engines right down to the ashtrays that open up all the time.

I considered the same thing too. As I think the Z06 is the only corvette or American made car I would have owned, but after reading what the owns are saying about it's reliability, I would stay away from that POS at all costs.

The Z06 is simply a joke.

Well in truth the ZO6 and 997GT3 are probably going to be pretty comparable in track settings so it really depends on the driver as far as how much performance you can extract from either car and what kind of driving experience you want.

If they cost the same its an idiotic question but the GT3 at nearly 35K more it doesn't surprise me that people at least think about it.

Don't want to change the subject from the cars to the owners, but I too have noticed that many, not all, but many Z06 owners are behaviorally/culturally challenged. Sad really.

As once said in Top Gear, although he was referring to the 360 Challenge Stradale vs. the 996 GT3, the 997 GT3 is a "scaled down version of GOD"
