Ex-Morgan Stanley President's $440,000 Car Wrecked, Post Says
2006-12-01 08:57 (New York)
By Todd Zeranski
Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Former Morgan Stanley President Robert
Greenhill's $440,000 Porsche was destroyed when a mechanic
returning the car after minor auto-body work crashed into a pole,
the New York Post reported.
The mechanic, Christopher Numme, was driving the 604-
horsepower Porsche Carrera GT back to a Greenwich, Connecticut,
dealership from his shop when he lost control, the newspaper
said. It slammed front-end first into a telephone pole.
Numme said he saw a truck inching past a stop sign and
realized he couldn't brake in time, the Post reported. He swerved
and the car spun onto the sidewalk and hit the pole, he told the
newspaper.
The mechanic, who wasn't cited for any violations, said his
insurance would cover the damage. He said Greenwich resident
Greenhill, 70, was only concerned that no one was hurt and that
his car would be replaced, the newspaper said.

Update for anyone who cares:
All the talk about Chris Numme (the driver/mechanic) reimbursing the owner is totally BS. They are going through a huge insurance battle right now, and its the talk of the town in Greenwich where I live.
The owner never really drove his car and it suffered slight damage while trying to enter a parking lot that was too high...
The car was sent to Numme Autobody by New Country Porsche Greenwich (who send ALL their cars there), and on the way back from the repairs, apparently the idiot Numme decided to test the integrity of the carbon tub.
The emergency service personel at the scene are friends of friends and they said they car was traveling well over 100mph, contrary to the "not speeding" on the police report (as reported by the various news agencies).
That said, many people have had bad experiences with Numme... Chris Numme and his staff are crooked businessman who do very mediocre work, the only reason he is still in busniess is because Porsche Greenwich outsource all their bodywork to him, which seems to keep him afloat...
Blah.

I remember in 1988 when our carbon fibre F1 (with an F1 driver) car chrashed in practice in Mexico, it was impossible to determine any impact on some of the pieces.
Based upon the pictures, I can well believe that the car was travelling at a very high rate of speed. Common sense would support the physical evidence.

"Virtually, the car felt like it just went on a piece of black ice and careened into the telephone pole," Numme said. "I'm thankful that we're alive and that we walked away from it. It was an honest accident."
Come on...not his fault! It was an 'honest' accident...(virtuallly)
